But there is now a positive new update from the TV host in People’s latest issue: His doctors say that he is in “near remission.” It’s fantastic news for a diagnosis of a cancer that has a 9% survival rate. While he’s not completely out of the woods yet, he is optimistic and tells People, “The doctors said they hadn’t seen this kind of positive result in their memory…some of the tumors have already shrunk by more than 50 percent.”

According to Trebek (age 78), he still has a few more rounds of chemotherapy to go, but he’s responding well and he knows that the support of his fans out there must have something to do with it.

“I’ve got a couple million people out there who have expressed their good thoughts, their positive energy directed towards me and their prayers,” he said to People. “I told the doctors, this has to be more than just the chemo, and they agreed it could very well be an important part of this.”

The host has been very candid about the depression he had faced while faced with this long journey towards good health, and it’s a blessing that he is now described as “elated” in People.
