Alex Trebek first hosted the iconic game show in 1984 and has since become the face of Jeopardy!. His charm is partially responsible for the show's ongoing success. In March of 2019, Trebek publicly announced his diagnosis of stage four pancreatic cancer on the show's YouTube channel. Trebek released a public statement revealing his intentions to fight cancer and continue hosting the game show for as long as possible. He jokingly mentioned that his contract coerced him to host for at least three more years.

In the GMA interview, Trebek opened up about his experience with cancer thus far. He was surprisingly upbeat and positive. Despite his unfortunate diagnosis, the host is dedicated to fighting the disease for as long as possible. He went into depthabout his experiences with pancreatic cancer, the ill effects of chemotherapy, and the amazing support he receives on a daily basis from millions of loyal fans across the world.

According to Trebek, chemotherapy is easily one of the most difficult parts of fighting the disease. Trebek told Good Morning America's Robin Roberts that the "deep sadness" that he experiences from the chemotherapy treatment is a natural result of the invasiveness of the procedure. Trebek was able to joke about being a "bit of a wuss" during the treatments. He mentioned that he feels weak a lot of the time. Despite these difficulties, the host is remaining optimistic about his chances. He acknowledged that cancer is something with which he must deal.

Trebek also mentioned his gratitude for the support and love that his viewers send on a daily basis. The host has been able to gain confidence and strength from his fans. Trebek has talked to many different people who have overcome similar diagnoses. These cancer survivors have been an inspiration to the 30-day survivor.

Fans have been offering prayers, good thoughts, and advice to Trebek. He acknowledged that these kind gestures are "making a difference". Trebek also joked that the cancer is well-timed with the ending of the game show's season. He is planning to take the summer to make a recovery and return to the show to host after the hiatus.

Jeopardy! contestant James Holzhauer has also been attracting a lot of attention this season with his unbelievable winning streak. The contestant has won 19 games in a row with total earnings of $1,426,330 second only to current record-holder Ken Jennings. Trebek mentioned that America should be focusing on this impressive streak rather than his condition.

Although some fans are only focused on large prizes and Daily Doubles, loyal fans are more concerned about Trebek's battle with cancer.
