BAFTA Viewers In Tears As Awards Show Pays Tribute To Caroline Flack

The British Academy Television Awards, or BAFTA TV Awards 2020, left viewers in tears as it paid tribute to the late British television presenter Caroline Flack during the virtual ceremony on Friday.

The BAFTA TV Awards returned to BBC One this year with a virtual ceremony due to the coronavirus pandemic. While there were many changes to the usual format, the touching 'in memoriam' section held, and viewers were left in tears by its tribute to Caroline Flack, a former British television presenter who died in February aged 40.

The awards ceremony paid tribute to the former The X Factor host with a clip from its 2019 final. In the clip, Flack said: “We’ve had fun, flutters and factor 50 galore and tonight we’ll be crowning our Love Island winners 2019." Viewers were left in tears by the emotional tribute and took to Twitter to comment.

"My heart honestly sinks anytime I think about Caroline Flack ... still can’t believe she’s gone," said one user.

Someone else said:

“We have lost so many great people… I’m still so shocked and sad about Caroline Flack #VirginMediaBAFTAs.”

While a third tweeted:

“We miss you Caroline #VirginMediaBAFTAs.”

The in memoriam montage also paid tributes to Nicholas Parsons, Gary Rhodes, and Leah Bracknell amongst others. 

On February 15, Flack was found dead in her home in North London after taking her own life. According to The Mirror, Flack had found out the day before that a trial regarding her allegedly harassing her boyfriend would be taking place this March.

She was best known for previously hosting the dating show Love Island, whose future has been thrown into doubt by a string of tragedies, as reported by The Jakarta Post. Ex-contestants of the show Mike Thalassitis and Sophie Graydon have also died by means of suicide.
