We all know how bad breakups can hurt. When we get hurt in relationships, we mope for a while and then find the strength to move on. However, when you’re a celebrity, things are likely even more confusing and hard to go through while living in the public eye.

When celebrity couples are put into the spotlight so much, it can be hard to move on without people asking questions. Many celebrities create songs about their famous exes or even give interviews detailing why they broke up. For Miranda Lambert, her breakup with ex Blake Shelton has been front-page news in the media for years.

Lambert is one of the biggest female country music artists of the new generation. Born on Nov. 10, 1983, in Longview, Texas, Lambert’s musical journey began at a young age, honing her skills in local talent shows and contests before ultimately gaining national attention as a finalist on the 2003 season of “Nashville Star.”

Aside from her music, Lambert became very famous because of her marriage and eventual divorce from Shelton. It inspired her 2016 double album, “The Weight of These Wings.” This introspective work delved into the complexities of love and loss, earning Lambert critical acclaim and reaffirming her status as one of country music’s most compelling country music storytellers.

Lambert has since moved on from Shelton, and it could also be said for the latter, who has since married No Doubt vocalist Gwen Stefani. However, many of Lambert’s fans are still curious about what went down between the two of them. In 2022, Lambert gave fans an insight into what she felt at the time when she and Shelton were separating. Read on to learn more about Lambert and Shelton’s divorce.

In 2006, Lambert and Shelton began dating, and they tied the knot in 2011 at the Don Strange Ranch in Boerne, Texas.

The two were embroiled in a controversy with singer Eric Church as Lambert defended her husband against the former’s statement about “The Voice.”

“Honestly, if Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green turn around in a red chair, you got a deal? That’s crazy,” Church told the outlet. “I don’t know what would make an artist do that. You’re not an artist. Once your career becomes about something other than the music, then that’s what it is. I’ll never make that mistake. I don’t care if I starve,” he told Rolling Stone at the time.

Speaking about her feelings when she met Shelton at the time, Lambert had this to say in 2011: “I didn’t know if it was just initial butterflies… I don’t know what it was. It was just this draw to each other.”

In a separate interview, she also described Shelton as “the happiest person on the planet.”

“I’m not sunshine and roses. Blake’s the happiest person on the planet. He pulls me out of my darkness… Literally, everything is the best about being married,” she added.

While their marriage and partnership made them a power couple in the music industry, the couple did not last.

“This is not the future we envisioned. And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends, and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter,” they announced in a statement to the Associated Press at the time.

Eventually, Shelton found a new love in Stefani, whom he met at “The Voice” at the time. Lambert, on the other hand, also met her husband, Brendan McLoughlin, when she was performing at ABC’s “Good Morning America,” where McLoughlin worked as a security guard at the New York Police Department. It was Pistol Annies, Lambert’s band, that connected the two.

However, some fans are still curious about what happened between the two singers that led to their divorce. In the past years, Lambert has sparingly talked about what she has gone through.

In 2018, when she accepted the Song of the Year Award at the ACMs for her song “Tin Man,” she had this to say: “Thank you guys so much for sharing my broken heart with me.”

In May 2022, Lambert opened up to CBS about what she felt at the time of the divorce.

“I wasn’t prepared for that. I don’t think anybody is. And it’s not nice sometimes, but I think you got to take it with a grain of salt and know that, like, I’m a singer-songwriter, so luckily I can tell my whole truth. I will not lie in my music,” she confessed.

Shelton, on the other hand, revealed that the process of their divorce has been “fast.”

“In Oklahoma, it happens so fast,” he told the “Bobby Bones Show.” “Like, Miranda and I didn’t have any kids, and we had a prenuptial agreement, whatever we had. Once we filed for divorce, it was over in, like, I think it was like a nine- or 10-day waiting period.”
