Meghan Markle Was ‘Disappointed’ After Meeting Kate Middleton — Princess Of Wales Reportedly Made Her Cry At One Point

Meghan Markle is undoubtedly one of the most famous people in the world after she got married to Prince Harry in 2018. Since the former actress had been romantically involved with her now-husband, she was also marrying into the royal family and had to get along with its members.

According to a timeline article published by Harper’s Bazaar, Markle and Harry first met through a mutual friend. They initially got acquainted online and decided to go on a date in person, where the Prince was late.

That first date was so special to them that they decided to meet each other again after a few weeks. As they lived far apart at the time, going on dates together wasn’t easy. 

During an interview with BBC when they announced their engagement to the world, Prince Harry said both of them took a trip to Botswana, where they camped out under the stars, and it was very romantic for them.

In 2017, Kensington Palace announced that the two have been engaged after one year of dating. Then, finally, on May 19, 2018, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry tied the knot at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, to which countless A-list personalities were invited.

Their ceremony also made history for being the most-watched royal wedding in the world. At the time, Meghan finally got her title of Duchess of Sussex.

Through the years, the couple went on to have a loving relationship as they went to attend several charity events and even celebrated occasions with royal family members.

Regardless, they also faced controversies from the public, and there was also one point when the Duchess revealed that she was left disappointed upon meeting Kate Middleton, wife of Prince William. Read on below to know more about what happened between the two royals.

In an article published by People Magazine in November 2016, it was revealed that Meghan Markle was finally introduced to the royal family by Prince Harry.

At the time, royal experts and sources suggested that their relationship was serious and they could potentially get engaged not long after.

“Harry is pretty serious about her and she is pretty serious about him… It’s great. They have a lot in common and I’m sure they will get on very well,” an insider said. 

In an unofficial biography titled “Finding Freedom” by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, as reported by the Daily Mirror, the authors claimed that Harry first introduced Meghan to Prince William and Kate Middleton within the first few months of dating.

However, the book claimed that the Duchess of Sussex was left “disappointed” upon realizing the attitude of Kate, as the authors noted that the Duchess of Wales was “an extremely guarded person” who has a small circle of friends; this urged the pair to not have the closest relationship.

“Meghan would agree with the assessment that the duchesses were not the best of friends,” Scobie and Durand added.

They further claimed in the book that the two Duchesses’ relationship hadn’t progressed much since the time before Meghan was married to Harry.

“Meghan was disappointed that she and Kate hadn’t bonded over the position they shared, but she wasn’t losing sleep over it,” a source added.

Fortunately, there was one key person who eased the tensions between the two women: Prince William and Kate’s daughter, Princess Charlotte.

There were rumors that circulated in 2018 that Meghan Markle allegedly made Kate Middleton cry, but during the bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, around the time when she and her husband announced that they decided to “step back as ‘senior’ members” of the royal family, the Duchess of Sussex revealed that “the reverse happened.”

Back when Meghan was still preparing for her wedding at the time, a confrontation sparked between the two over the dresses of flower girls.

“It made me cry, and it really hurt my feelings, and I thought in the context of everything else that was going on in those days leading to the wedding that it didn’t make sense to not be just doing what everyone else was doing which was trying to be supportive knowing what was going on with my dad and whatnot,” she said, as posted by Entertainment Tonight in 2021.

Meghan then clarified that the reason why she told the story publicly was because she wanted to make a point that she didn’t feel protected by the royal family even before she got married to Prince Harry.

Later in the interview, the Duchess of Sussex revealed that Kate apologized to her for what happened, and she also made up for her mistake.

“It was a really hard week of the wedding and she was upset about something but she owned it and she apologized and she brought me flowers and a note apologizing,” she added.

Regardless, Meghan added that the part that was hard for her to comprehend was she was blamed for something that she didn’t do and what happened to her and the people who were involved with the wedding.
