Kate Middleton's Health History — From Mysterious Head Scar To Hospitalization Due To Abdominal Surgery

The royal family is a tight-knit group that does their best to be there for each other during the good and bad times. Whether it’s gathering together for a special event or just spending the day together for a royal engagement, the royal family members have shown that they truly care for each other.

Kate Middleton and Prince William married in April 2011 and have been gracing the world with their beautiful romance ever since. Together, they have three children — the eldest, Prince George, was born in 2013. The only daughter, Princess Charlotte, was welcomed to the world in 2015, and their youngest bundle of joy, Prince Louis, was born in 2018.

Over the years, the family has been spotted out and about during royal engagements and typical everyday activities. Despite this, Kate and William have done their best to keep their personal life private and show just how much of a normal family they actually are.

However, with such a prime spot in the public eye, it was only time until people began to notice the ways in which the Prince and Princess of Wales acted toward their three adorable children. Throughout their many outings and interactions as a family, the royal couple has shown nothing but love, affection, and support for each other and their kids.

Through the years, the public has seen these children grow and become the young royals they are today, but not everyone knows that the Princess of Wales had complications with her health. Read below to learn more about the royal’s health issue.

According to an article published by Time Magazine in September 2017, around the time when Kate Middleton was pregnant with her third child, the Princess reportedly suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness.

Hormonal changes possibly cause the condition during the first trimester of pregnancy. Once somebody has had this problem during a pregnancy, it increases the chances of it returning and happening again to the mother.

Since Kate was suffering from the said condition at the time, it prohibited her from attending a planned engagement in London, but Kensington Palace assured the public that she was being cared for.

Her third child, Prince Louis, was later welcomed in April 2018. It appeared that the Princess was well and healthy at the time as she happily waved to the crowd on the hospital’s porch just hours after giving birth.

Prior to Prince Louis’s birth, in 2017, Kate Middleton reportedly received a baby toy, despite her two children already being too old for it at the time. She later told Prince William: “We’ll just have to have more babies!”

This urged an organization called “Having Kids,” a group that promotes a sustainable family planning model, to tell the pair to reconsider their decision to have more children, as they are a very influential couple.

Through the years, the royalty has been a topic of discussion, especially after a photo circulated online showing her hair out of place, which led many people to speculate that she had an extension track.

However, a spokesperson for the Princess told E! News at the time that it was a three-inch scar that she got from a “childhood operation” but details behind the surgery had been kept private.

In January 2024, Kensington Palace announced that Kate Middleton was admitted to the hospital for a “planned abdominal surgery.”

“The surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery. Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter,” the announcement reads.

Even though the Princess of Wales is a public figure, she wanted to remain private when it comes to this conversation to keep what truly happened to her behind closed doors.

“She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much as normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private,” the post added.

Since she still has to recover, the announcement revealed that Kate will have to postpone her upcoming engagements at the time, but she was looking forward to “reinstating as many as possible.”

Prince William had supported his wife throughout her stay in the hospital because, after her surgery, People Magazine reported that the Prince of Wales paid his wife a visit.

At the time, the Prince was photographed leaving the London Clinic around lunchtime.

The Telegraph reported that the prince is said to have planned to spend as much time as possible with his wife, but he will balance his visits with his daddy duties for their three children in Windsor.

He also reportedly changed his schedule to continue his support and be by his wife’s side as much as possible.
