Homeless Man Who’s ‘Down On His Luck’ Receives A Big Surprise From The Police Officer He Interacted With

Not all people are fortunate enough to live in a comfortable house, eat three meals a day, and even have a bed to sleep on. That’s why whenever we encounter people who are “down on their luck,” such as the man in this story, we should do our best to lend a helping hand, if we can.

The inspiring story began with a homeless man named Bobby. He came to interact with Officer Aaron Page of the Rome Police Department during Officer Page’s shift.

Fellow officer Jeff Buckley shared the story with CNYCentral where he revealed that Bobby didn’t have much in life. In fact, he “literally had just the clothes he was wearing.”

The police officers in the department thought that it was obvious that he needed help, so when Bobby came back one morning, he received a surprise of a lifetime.

Four officers decided to help out and gathered some clothes that Bobby could wear. In addition to the new clothing that he received, Officer Page also gave the homeless man a shave and a haircut.

The process of changing Bobby’s life was shared on the police department’s official Facebook account.

“After some interaction with a man down on his luck, Bobby, said he’d love a haircut and warm shower,” the post read. 

In the first photo, the homeless man can be seen wearing dirty clothes, and he has overgrown hair and a beard. 

Later in the post, police officers could be seen helping him wear a pair of brand-new shoes and clothes. One cop even closed the buttons of his new long-sleeved polo.

“This morning we provided Bobby with a haircut, a shave, a shower and a whole new wardrobe of donated clothing. Bobby left looking like a whole new person and couldn’t thank us enough,” they added.

The moment when he got a haircut was also documented. In the last photo, Bobby was almost unrecognizable because of his new hairstyle and clothing, which consisted of a pair of jeans, a striped button-up shirt, an orange jacket, and a pair of red sneakers.

“We are always trying to come up with new ideas of how to help and give back to our community,” Officer Buckley told CNYCentral.

The social media post garnered thousands of reactions, comments, and shares from online users, and most of them applauded the police department for doing the kind act to the man in need.

“God Bless You For what you did for this man.Sometimes a person can just become so depressed or down and out that they want to give up. I know that this man felt like a Shiny Penny when he left.God Bless You City of Rome, New York Police Dept,” one user wrote.

“What a amazing story. I think the pictures says more than a lot of words. Respect for all Officers who help him! Thank u! 🇺🇸👍😇,” another one wrote.

“And thats how you Police! Great job to Rome PD it is nice to see the other side of Police work and we need more of it, I hope it spreads to all the departments across our country. Be safe out there and keep up the great work!!!!” one commented.
