Young Waitress Shatters Her Back After Jumping Off Pier To Rescue Little Boy When No One Else Will

You never know who will be a hero when the situation calls for it. For one brave server in Daytona Beach, Florida, being a hero was the last thing on her mind as she took the orders of customers around her. But on April 13th, that is just what she became.

Hanna Pignato is a 19-year-old server who works at a popular restaurant known as Joe’s Crab Shack. The restaurant is near the beach. She was working when she noticed something terrible – an 8-year-old boy who had gotten caught up in the rip current of the water. A riptide will drag a person away from the shore.

The child had been struggling against the current in a panic. If you can swim parallel with the rip current, you stand a chance of saving yourself. Unfortunately, the little boy was becoming exhausted. That is when Pignato spotted him.

Pignato was serving on the rooftop deck of the restaurant when she spotted the flailing boy. She quickly handed a customer her phone and apron before jumping down to save the young boy.

Unfortunately, the plunge to the water was about 20 feet. She was also aware that the water she was jumping in was very shallow. The server struck a sandbar, breaking some bones in her lower back and in her foot. Another stranger ended up saving the boy before she could reach him. He was taken to a nearby hospital because of all the water he had swallowed.

Pignato ended up having to be rescued herself. However, she is not sorry that she jumped. She said that she kept thinking of her own little sister and that she hoped she would be saved if she ended up in trouble. While she does regret not walking down the pier a little bit more, she says she remembered how scared the mother of the young boy was. Because of that, she jumped in with no hesitation.

We are so happy that everyone ended up safe and sound. We hope that this server gets back on her feet as soon as possible, and we also wish to extend our thanks to the person who did save the little boy.

What did you think of Pignato's heroic efforts? How would you have reacted in such a situation? Let us know in the comments and be sure to pass this along to others!
