Young Girl Suspended From Kindergarten For Playing With A Stick

In the past, getting suspended from school was usually reserved for serious offenses such as fighting school staff or being out of control. But in today’s world, it’s starting to seem that suspension is something that’s becoming a punishment that’s far too frequent for even the smallest of offenses. A kindergartener in North Carolina who recently got suspended is evidence of this.

Caitlin is a five-year-old who loves to go to school, play with her friends, and just have a good time. But her recent decision to play with a stick ended in her being suspended from school

The Washington Post reported that it all started when Caitlin picked up a stick from the ground during recess and started to act like it was a gun. She chased her classmates, who laughed and seemed to be having a great time until the recess monitor caught sight of what was going on. Putting a stop to it immediately wasn’t enough – the school decided to take serious action.

The school took Caitlin off the playground and called for her parents to come pick her up. Her mom was stunned that Caitlin would have gotten in trouble at school and even more shocked when she discovered that her little girl was suspended. The school announced that the suspension was because she was playing with a stick that looked like a gun, the Post noted.

The Hoke County Schools’ spokesperson explained that “assaults, threats, and harassment” would not be tolerated from any student and would result in removal from the school environment.

Caitlin’s mom, Brandy Miller, is upset about the entire situation. While understanding the school’s decision to be against violence, she does not consider her daughter’s actions worthy of suspension.

Brandy took her frustrations on social media where her disgruntled posts went viral and gained a lot of interest from people on both sides of the situation.

After the incident, Miller even considered home-schooling her daughter. She wishes her children were “raised in a better time period when just being a kid was perfectly acceptable,” she wrote on Facebook as per the Daily Mail
