As a parent, you witness daily the growth of your child. You are given the responsibility of ensuring that significant lessons regarding life are learned. You are given the opportunity to be there to teach them their ABC’s, the importance of financial responsibilities and how to love deeply and unconditionally.

Your children need you there to uplift them when they are down and guide them when they can’t see the way in front of themselves.

However, what do you do when your child releases frustration and anger when you are simply trying to teach something of good value? A famous mom blogger by the name of Kirsten Johnson experienced that with her son Rylan. Rylan was having trouble understanding the concept behind learning to tie his shoes.

The idea of using the bunny ears was very confusing and so was the method of “loop-swoop-pull”.

In frustration, Rylan proclaimed how hard the task was for him to tie his shoes. Fortunately, Kirsten was ready with a backup plan to relieve the pressure her son was under. She had learned another shoe-tying technique online and was eager to share it with her son.

Kirsten wanted to share this new solution that she had found with her Facebook community. Here are the new instructions she gave Rylan to tie his shoes. First, Rylan was to cross the laces over and through themselves as you would normally. Then do it again, but just not as tight the second time. At this point, you are left with a small hole or loop.

Using one end of a shoestring, she guided Rylan in inserting one end into the hole through to the other side. Next, he would do the same for the other shoestring.

Now all he had to do was pull on both strings to create the perfect bow.

Rylan was able to grasp this concept instantly, while only having to practice once. Kirsten asked him to do it a second time on camera.

This concept was so easy and inspiring for Rylan. People worldwide commented on Kirsten’s post with the excitement of their children catching on to this concept quickly as well. One viewer who has an autistic son thanked Kirsten for sharing this easy technique. The viewer’s son was able to tie his shoe for the first time without any help.

Kirsten came back to Facebook to thank everyone for their positive words. She was delighted to share something that would make someone else’s life easier.
