It can be a bit overwhelming to suddenly meet someone you have idolized for most of your life.

Houston Rockets star Chris Paul got a chance to show the world his softer side recently after competing in a game against the Atlanta Hawks.

Paul gave one young fan attending the game at the State Farm Arena an experience he will not soon forget.

Chris Paul took off the shoes he had worn while playing the game, signed them, and walked in the direction of a young fan he spotted wearing his jersey. Paul handed the shoes to the young fan and also offered to sign his jersey. This was the moment the young boy totally lost it.

The boy was unable to control his sobbing. The excitement was more than he could control. After all, it is not every day your hero approaches you with gifts. The young boy hugged Paul after accepting the gifts. Paul returned the hug to the excited young fan.

Paul took a picture with the young boy before leaving for the Rockets' locker room. The photo was one last gift from Paul and another memory the youngster will cherish for a lifetime.

The Instagram video of Paul and Shaun currently boasts over 20,000 views and fans say they now have one more reason to love the Rockets' point guard.

One commenter on Reddit said:

"I always appreciate seeing professional athletes taking opportunities like these. It’s such a small thing for them to do but that kid will remember it for the rest of his life. Makes me feel the warm and fuzzy feels."

A second commenter said:

"The greatness of this man flies in the face of sports figures who prefer to sell their autograph. What a terrific role model for kids."

It is true the world could use more role models like Chris Paul.  We are sure you will agree after watching the video of his encounter with the star-struck young fan. Do not be surprised if you have to fight back the urge to shed tears yourself.
