Most of us remember the popular movie “Home Alone.” In it, a young boy who is left home during the holidays comes up with creative ways to get rid of the thieves in his house. This past June, an 11-year-old brought the story to life in North Carolina.

Braydon Smith was home alone that day when a stranger broke into his home. The intruder ordered him into the closet with a pellet gun. Braydon said that he could tell the gun wasn’t loaded, so he simply got into the closet like he was told to. The thief then started to ransack their house. As he waited, Braydon began to worry that he would come back and try to hurt him. Thinking about his options, he began to formulate a plan.

Braydon had bought a machete at one point with gift cards, which he quickly grabbed from his room. He typically used the tool for yard work, but the young boy realized that it was an excellent weapon. He quietly stalked the intruder into the living room, and then he quietly waited for the right moment to strike. Braydon told the news that the intruder found his phone on a counter but dropped it.

"That’s when I picked up my machete and hit him in the back of the head," Braydon said.

The robber didn’t go down without a fight. He kicked the little boy in the stomach, but Braydon refused to give up. He swung the machete again. Although the second swing missed, the intruder decided to flee.

He was already bleeding from the first swing, and he obviously realized that the little boy meant business.

The intruder ran out to his waiting vehicle. The police altered the nearby hospitals that someone could be coming in with a head wound. Just a short time later, Jataveon Dashawn Hall, a 19-year-old man, checked into the hospital with a head wound. He matched the description that Braydon gave the police.

The man ended up escaping from the hospital but was later found hiding inside of his mother’s apartment. He was charged with second-degree kidnapping, breaking and entering, and assault on a minor younger than 12.

Braydon had a very powerful message for his robber. He said that he shouldn’t have done what he did. He stated that it would have been better for him to just get a job.
