Watching your favorite TV show is a great way to relax after a long day of work. “The Voice” is one of those shows that many people look forward to for exactly that purpose. As viewers of the show know, it’s even more satisfying when some previously unknown talent blows everyone away. Ordinary people stand up on stage and wow the audience with voices that sound like they came from heaven.

Another awesome part of “The Voice” has to be the blind auditions. Those auditions are the first step in the wildly popular competition. Hopefuls from all around walk on stage to show off their talent. The judges have their chairs turned toward the audience so they can truly judge the person's talent rather than their looks.

One blind audition seemed to stand out from the rest back in 2013: Jesse Pardon’s performance on an episode of “The Voice Kids” in the Netherlands. Jesse, who was just 14 at the time, had the judges swooning after he sang a hit by the famous group Queen.

Barely in his teens, Jesse was still brave enough to try out for “The Voice,” and the first notes of his audition proved that this young man has been performing for quite a while. And his choice of song was perfect. It was "Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Some songs are pure magic. Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" is one of those that will live on forever. A favorite at karaoke and during sing-a-longs, this song has high energy, is completely addictive and makes it impossible to resist singing along whenever it plays.

Every one of the judges' chairs whipped around after Jesse's performance, and the audience gave him a well-deserved standing ovation after the last note rang out. Many likely predicted that Jesse had a bright future ahead of him, even well after “The Voice” would be over. Unfortunately, although Jesse made it all the way to the final, he lost to Laura van Kaamwas. What’s more, Jesse has had little if any presence online since his appearance on the show. Thanks to an online bio written for a musical Jesse performed in back in 2011, we do know a little bit more about this musical wunderkind, however.

“I live in Zoeterwoude Dorp with my family and we have two cats, one rabbit and three chickens. I played Sip in the musical Ciske de Rat and auditioned for the musicals JOSEPH and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Mary Poppins,” Jesse wrote in his 2011 bio, which was originally published in Dutch. “I made it to the last ten in both. I like playing outside, watching TV, good food, singing, musicals, walking in the dunes, nature, playing the piano and building huts.”

“I also like to get into mischief!” Jesse wrote, adding that he likes “smearing toothpaste on the door handles” to prank people.

As for his future plans, Jesse said that he wants to be a “musical star or an archaeologist.”

For those who don’t know, “The Voice Kids” is an offshoot of the reality television singing competition “The Voice,” where kids between the ages of 8-14 compete.

Americans likely haven’t heard of the show since the U.S. doesn’t have a dedicated “The Voice” show for children. With that said, producers in countries throughout the world have launched their own franchises, including in Albania, Brazil, Colombia, Denmark, France, Germany, Lithuania, Mexico and many more.

Some of the children that participate or go on to win on “The Voice Kids” in their respective countries later compete in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, a reality television competition put on by the European Broadcasting Union. On the show, which is a version of the original Eurovision Song Contest, representatives from different countries compete against one another. The contest’s 2020 winner is Valentina Tronel, an 11-year-old singer from Rennes, France. Valentina participated in the French version of “The Voice Kids,” though she failed to place first on the show.

Other well-known “The Voice Kids” contestants include Juliette Van Damme, a singer from Belgium. Juliette progressed quite far on the Belgium version of the show, securing her position as the second runner-up on Belgian musician Sean Dhondt’s team, along with Jens Broes. And while she didn’t manage to win first place — just as Jesse ultimately lost — her performance of “Fight Song” has gone viral, accumulating more than 16 million views on YouTube.

And it seems like Juliette still hasn’t given up her dream. In December 2014, shortly after the show had ended, Julliette performed live in Antwerp, Belgium at a clothing store accompanied by violinist Koen De Nefski and a pianist.

Both Juliette and Jesse’s stories just go to show that even if you don’t win “The Voice Kids,” the show still provides an excellent platform for artists to build an audience online.
