Warm weather is coming and we all want to embrace it by wearing less clothes. This includes swapping out our constrictive boots for flip-flops so we can air out our feet!

However, flip-flops could be dangerous and you need to know the reasons why you should limit the times you wear them.

What Are Flip-Flops?

There are lots of open-air shoe styles, but we're talking about the most basic flip-flop that is made out of thin foam and has a plastic thong that wraps around your toes.

Why Are Flip-Flops BAD?

1. They Give You Bunions

Bunions happen when you pull and misalign the ligaments and tendons in your feet to form unsightly and painful protrusions on the sides of your toes. As it turns out, flip-flops are a major culprit of damaging your feet.

2. They Don't Support Your Feet

On top of bunions, flip-flops also kill your arches. Since this shoe offers no support, you're putting a lot of unnecessary strain on the arches of your feet when you wear them, which can lead to pain, heel spurs, and plantar fasciitis.

3. They Grow Fungus

The foam in your flip-flops traps moisture and heat, which is the perfect breeding ground for fungus and other nasty things. You should definitely wear flip-flops in communal areas like pool grounds and showers, but try not to wear them anywhere else.

4. They Cause Blisters

New shoes without socks usually cause blisters until you break them in. However, flip-flops made with a plastic thong can never be broken in and it will always cause painful blisters between your toes!

5. They Strain Your Feet

The balls of your feet are also under a lot of stress when you wear flip-flops. Your toes have to compensate by curling. If you wear them enough, eventually you can develop hammertoe, which is when one toe curls over the other. It looks nasty and you need surgery to correct it!

6. They Trip You

Flip-flops never want to stay on your feet. People can easily step on the back of your shoe and send you falling, or you could even stumble over yourself. Flip-flops are asking for pain through twisted ankles, stubbed toes, and sore knees after you fall.

7. They Slow You Down

Since your toes have to curl and uncurl with each step just to keep your flip-flops in place, you should never try to run with them on. You won't get anywhere fast and you'll increase your risk of #6!

8. They Hurt You

Flip-flops make that slapping sound with each step because your heels are hitting the floor hard, which causes pain, calluses, and cracked skin. Although cute and convenient, flip-flops are absolutely the worst thing you could put on your feet!

Send this to everyone who loves flip-flops. You'll probably ruin their day, but you'll save their feet!
