More often than not, we don't truly understand just how bad for us certain foods can be. Some things seem not as bad as they actually are, and because of this we can hurt our bodies without knowing it.

Especially in the realm of skincare, it's surprising just how many foods you eat on a daily basis have the potential to hurt you much more than they do help.

This one should come as no surprise, as alcohol is a prime suspect when looking at the effects a bad diet can take on your skin. It not only causes dehydration, but it also can cause your hormones to be disrupted, one of the main causes of acne.

6. Rice Cakes

Who would have guessed that rice cakes are actually bad for you? I certainly didn't! Rice cakes can lead to wrinkles in your face and at their worst decrease your brain's functionality.

 

5. Sushi

Sushi can contain a lot of sodium, salt, and other similar products, all of which are known to speed up the aging process and negatively impact your skin. This can lead to dehydration and eventually may even lead to skin diseases.

It's a well-known fact that dairy products can contribute to skin problems such as acne and wrinkles, but did you also know that the GMOs cows are fed may be harmful to your health as well? Pasteurizing milk may help it stay good for longer, but ultra-pasteurization techniques may have consequences we can't predict. Additionally, dairy can irritate your skin's oil glands through unexpected hormones.

 

3. Cereals

Aside from their high sugar content, cereals also suffer from the GMO dilemma. Not only can they make your skin more irritated and worsen problems like acne, but they can also increase your chances of allergies.

Processed meats may contain a dangerously high amount of sodium, but it's actually the nitrates from processed meats that can inflame and irritate your skin, causing swelling, discomfort and overall unhealthy skin.

This is definitely the most shocking item on our list—how can juices be bad for you? Well, even though they may seem natural, many juices contain large amounts of sugar, sometimes even as much sugar as other unhealthy drinks like soda. This sugar acts against your collagen, making your skin lose quality and texture. What a bummer!
