You Should Never, Ever Ignore These 5 Gut Feelings

Jul 30, 2018 by apost team

You’ve often heard the expression “listen to your gut.” That’s because we all have an inner voice that tells us what is right and what is wrong, usually demonstrated by a very strong feeling or urge. Instincts should tell you something about the situation you are in, and it’s important to never ignore what you are feeling deep inside.

Read on for five instincts that you should never ignore.

1. When You Don’t Feel Well

You should always listen to your body. If something inside of you doesn’t feel right, listen to it. How do you feel when you are with another person? Do they make you feel depressed, stressed out, scared, or tired? All of these feelings appear for good reason. Our bodies can communicate to us through physical means, and you should never brush those feelings aside.

Too many times we ignore those feeling or believe they are due to something else. Don’t- this is your body telling you something is wrong. You need to listen. Even subtle suggestions that something is wrong should never be ignored.

2. I Need to Help That Person

A gut feeling doesn’t always have to be a negative one. We can tell if someone around us really needs help. We have the ability to read other people through their body language and facial expressions, and we often can tell there is something wrong just by being close to them. That’s why most people do what they can to automatically help someone else during a natural disaster.

We instinctively know it is part of our duty as the human race to help others and keep each other alive. If someone is near you and you feel as though they need help, give it to them even if they aren’t asking for it. The nonverbal clues you are picking up on the situation are probably right.

3. I’m in a Dangerous Situation

Do you remember any of the Final Destination movies? One individual in the group will get a very intense vision seconds before disaster strikes. While the movies are fiction, the feelings are based on real ones. We all have gut feelings when it comes to danger nearby. For example, you see someone at the gas station. For seemingly no reason, you start to feel uneasy about them.

They start following you around and you don’t feel right about leaving alone. Don’t be afraid to act on that feeling of unease. We all have a fight-or-flight response that warns us of immediate danger, and it is important to trust your gut feelings.

4. This Feels Natural

We all have the tendency to overthink things. This causes us to create problems that never really existed in the first place. For example, maybe you are the best player on the team, but you start worrying that something bad will happen.

You worry so much that you end up striking out or missing the goal. It’s actually normal for people who have amazing talents to choke up when the spotlight is on them. But if something is natural to you, don’t let your fears take over. Your natural instincts should take over instead to allow you to accomplish what you set out for.

5. This Feels Right

This rule applies to basically anything in your life. Maybe you are looking for a new job or a new place to live. Does it just “feel right” to you? If it does, then it probably is.

It is important to trust your gut feeling when you are making big decisions in your life. Everything boils down to the way you feel about things. If someone else is trying to convince you to do things a way that you are uneasy about, chances are they are wrong. Always follow your gut instinct when something feels right to you. You’ll usually feel like a lightbulb has gone off in your brain or like a weight has been lifted off of your shoulders when something is right.
