Keep an eye on this toddler! In a decade or so, she might be the next Michael Phelps. She’s just a little girl, but she’s already swimming like a pro.

Water Baby!

Tiny Elizabeth had her first swim lesson at 16 months. Back then, she had to use water wings to stay afloat, and her parents were next to her for every flap of her arms. Now, at age 2.5 years, she can zip around the pool. You really won’t believe how well Elizabeth can swim. A lot of toddlers are still struggling to walk, but this little girl has already mastered the pool. It’s really impressive to watch her splash around.

Toddler Safety

Did this video make you worry for Elizabeth’s safety? Pools can be dangerous for young children. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), says that two children die every day from unintentional drowning. Why was toddler Elizabeth allowed to swim by herself? She wasn’t completely alone. Her dad was filming her the entire time and ready to jump to the rescue if needed.

If you watch the video long enough, you’ll hear mom’s voice, too. Clearly, this is a very loving and attentive family. Plus, Elizabeth looks like a very special young girl. She knows different types of swimming strokes and has been doing this a long time. With dad just a few feet away, she wasn’t in any danger. Do you agree?

Would you let your child swim by themselves at this age? When is a good time for kids to start using the pool without mom or dad’s help?
