Worried For Her Family, Queen Elizabeth Reportedly Asked William To Stop Flying Helicopters

Following rules, regulations and safety measures is nothing new for members of the royal family. Protecting the throne and making sure everyone is in healthy condition is important to keep the monarch going and keep the family close together. This is why particular protocols and guidelines have been put in place, specifically for certain members of the royal family.
Queen Elizabeth II has been the reigning monarch for almost 70 years, with her reign first beginning in February 1952 and her coronation having occurred in June 1953. The queen is currently the longest-lived and longest-reigning monarch in British history, as well as the oldest living and longest-reigning current monarch. Her support for the monarchy has remained high, as has her personal popularity as queen.
However, there are many people in line to the throne, and it’s the queen’s responsibility to make sure that they are safe and healthy at all times, no matter what the cost may be. This is one reason why the queen reportedly urged Prince William to stop flying in helicopters with his wife Kate Middleton and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Although there is a rule that forbids senior royals from flying together, the safety protocol was relaxed as William and Kate’s family continued to grow and they increasingly spent more time in places all across the United Kingdom. However, after losing Prince Philip in April 2021, the queen has urged William to reinstate the former protocols and stop flying in helicopters with his family members.

Succession To The Throne
As a safety concern and measurement, the Queen has urged William to stop flying in helicopters with his wife and their three children. According to News.com.au, the Queen is reported to be “terrified” that a disaster could strike, threatening the succession to the throne.
Currently, Prince Charles is set to take over as king following Her Majesty, with William next in line, and his eldest son, George, next in line after him. According to News.com.au, there is an unwritten rule that stops senior royal family members from flying with each other, but the protocol was relaxed after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge continued to grow their family and split their time between London and Norfolk.
If the queen’s fears were to become a reality, there could be a change in the line of succession, elevating Prince Harry to the throne despite the fact that he and Meghan Markle officially removed themselves from the royal family and are now living in California in the United States.
It’s reported that the queen had several conversations with William about this important safety protocol, as he had previously flown the entire Cambridge family from Kensington Palace all the way to their home at Anmer Hall in Norfolk. The family also recently released their Christmas family photo card that was taken in Jordan, with all of the family members reportedly flying there together.
According to News.com.au, the queen’s fears have also arisen following two near-misses against a royal helicopter that was in flight along with other helicopter-related scares involving members of the royal family.

Safety Precautions
Despite being advised not to fly with his wife and kids, William has been known to get behind the controls whenever his entire family is on board and has shown to be a confident and competent flyer as he served as an RAF search and rescue pilot for five years.
The Civil Aviation Authority also launched a review of safety rules specifically for royal air travel, which were seen as ambiguous and unclear, according to News.com.au. Still, the Queen has expressed concern about her family members flying together. A source said, “Her Majesty has told close friends and courtiers that she would like William to stop flying himself, particularly in bad weather, as helicopters are not the safest form of transport.”
The source continued, “She knows William is a capable pilot but does not think it is worth the risk for all five of them to carry on flying together and can’t imagine what would happen. It would spark a constitutional crisis. The Queen has told William she is worried that, however good he is as a pilot, bad weather and accidents can strike at any time.”
A Palace official said, “While there is no official rule on this, and royal heirs have travelled together in the past, it is something the Queen has the final say on.” However, News.com.au reported that William and Kate are reportedly looking for a home in Windsor to be closer to the Queen, as well as schools for their three kids, and therefore wouldn’t need to fly by helicopter to go visit her.
