Woman With Disability Banned From Grocery Store For Packing Too Slowly

A disabled woman was recently told she could not shop at a local grocery store anymore, as a result of the fact that she was having trouble bagging her own groceries.

Linda Rolston has had a difficult time packing her own groceries after having been diagnosed with cancer and having her voice box removed.

Even though it is store policy for shoppers to bag their own groceries, it would make sense to offer some assistance to an individual that is struggling.

However, the staff at the grocery store did not offer to help her.

In fact, the store manager requested that she stop shopping at the store altogether.

She inquired whether or not he was truly insinuating that she shop elsewhere. His response was that she needs to shop with someone that can pack her groceries for her, otherwise she should not shop at the store.

Lots of people don't have anyone else to bring with them on their errands. Some people live alone and don't have this type of assistance.

It is unfair to make this type of request and the establishment should truly be ashamed of themselves.

The manager then requested that she call ahead of time and make sure there is someone there to help her with her groceries. Linda said she is an adult and will not call ahead of time to get permission to shop.

To make matters worse, she told CBC that the company offered Rolsten $100 under the condition that she would sign a release stating that she will not take legal action against the company or go public about the incident.

“They can keep the $100. I’m going to tell anybody and continue with my human rights action,”

This type of behavior should not go without repercussions, so make sure you say something if you ever witness a similar situation. Don't forget to spread this important message to your loved ones by showing them this video.
