Dancing is something that gets into people’s souls. That feeling of being on the dance floor, losing yourself in the moment and truly dancing like no one is watching is intoxicating. However, one woman was scared that she may never be able to dance again after part of her left leg was blown off during one of the Boston Marathon bombings on April 15, 2013.

But Adrianne Haslet-Davis turned that fear into determination, which paid off as was shown in a heartwarming and inspirational YouTube video that TEDx Talks uploaded on Dec. 19, 2014.

Sadly, so many were affected by those bombings. Three lost their lives, and 264 people were injured; 16 of the injured ones lost limbs. Much mental anguish was experienced too, not just by those who were physically affected by these acts of violence but also others who were emotionally touched by them.

But acts of determination such as shown by Adrianne have helped heal some of those rough emotions. And she continued showing that part of herself as, two years after her energetic dance with Artsiom Chapialiou, she crossed the finish line as a runner at the 2016 Boston Marathon.

Adrianne has shown that although there will always be scars when something like this happens, some physical and some mental, they can heal too, and it can be so inspirational when that happens. She also inspired a nation when she later performed for a national-television audience on “Dancing with the Stars.”

At the end of Adrianne and Artsiom’s performance at the TEDx event, she grinned ecstatically, he kissed her on the cheek and they exchanged a high 10 before they purposefully collapsed on the floor as the audience rose to its feet for an emotional standing ovation. Then she waved to the still-applauding audience as the two sauntered off of the stage.

What was your reaction when you first heard what had happened at the 2013 Boston Marathon? Have you been inspired by how some of the victims such as Adrianne have responded to this tragedy?
