Being in shape and living a healthy lifestyle is sometimes easier said than done. It can be difficult to switch up old and comfortable habits, but with some hard work and determination, anything is possible.

Most of us have tried at one point in our lives to shed a little weight. Losing pounds is often extremely challenging, and often, people can lose weight but keeping the weight off is the major challenge later. Moreover, some people even face other challenges, such as hormonal disorders and thyroid problems, that can lead to difficulty shedding pounds as well.

For those who are undeterred to lose weight, however, there is nothing that will stop them from achieving their goal, and one person, Lexi Reed from Indiana, is one such person. She has become a beacon of hope for obese and overweight people who believe that they could never lose weight through diet and exercise, and Lexi has become somewhat of an internet star since 2018 thanks to her sharing her own experiences. Amazingly, Lexi had a lot of support from her husband, who began to diet and exercise with her. The couple lost more than 400 lbs together, combined.

Lexi is candid and open on social media about her journey, and her efforts have earned her over 1 million followers. She understands the influence she has on others, and importantly, she also shares a message of body positivity. Both Lexi and Danny gained some of the weight while under the COVID lockdown, but this has not made them any less happy about their overall progress.

Nowadays, Lexi is still sharing her journey with her fans — even the setbacks— after she had multiple surgeries and further health problems while striving to live a healthier life.

Lexi is the ultimate story of willpower to get in shape after she lost over 300 pounds in her weight loss journey. She even documented the progress along the way on her Instagram account so that others could follow along and learn from her.

Speaking about what motivated her to take action finally, Lexi told Women's Health Mag in November 2018, "I was honestly just fed up with being 485 pounds." At her heaviest, Lexi weighed 485 pounds and was eating at least 6,000 calories per day. She wrote: "Cooking at home was never the norm, and neither were vegetables. I was eating out multiple times a day, and because I Ioved anything fried, it was usually greasy fast food."

Once she dedicated herself to a healthy lifestyle, however, there was no stopping her. She even involved her husband, Danny, who helped her keep track of her goals, and she did the same for him. PEOPLE reported that together, the couple lost almost 400 pounds combined, which is no small feat!

However, as with people who are extremely overweight, weight loss always brings other complications, such as painful loose skin, and Lexi also had to go through this. Women's Health Mag reported that Lexi went through a lower-body lift that would remove excess skin from her abdomen and outer thighs, and also contour her buttocks.

The entire surgery took nine hours and Lexi had seven pounds of skin removed, which changed her life in many ways. "It’s insane to me that I can look down and see my feet or feel (my) hip bones for the first time in my life," Lexi said about the surgery. "It was never about having a flat tummy, but to be healthy and out of pain."

NBC News reported that Danny and Lexi each made their individual goals for how many pounds they wanted to lose, and Lexi went one step further and decided to keep herself accountable by creating an Instagram account. "I thought maybe I’d have 10 Instagram followers. I started it because I didn’t want to annoy all of my Facebook friends with my posts," she said.

However, before she knew it, her account was a major hit, and she has since gained over 1 million followers. "It’s crazy. I didn’t expect to be noticed," she added. "But it’s been really cool for Danny and I to be able to share our story. If we can help inspire somebody that’s what we want to do. We’re just small-town Indiana people going with the flow."

She also knows the reach she has with people who look up to her and told Woman's Health Mag, "I feel responsible for a million people on the internet daily." This is the reason that she has continued to post positively about everything relating to body image, including gaining some weight back during the COVID pandemic, which Danny wrote about in a post on his Instagram page

In a post from September 2021, she wrote in the caption: "I didn't feel as small or confident as I did the last time that I was there or that I was on the beach but I refuse to cover this body or let that hold me back. All bodies are beach bodies!"

Essentially, her message is, "It’s not about the weight you lose, it’s about the life you gain."

Lexi has been continuing her positive message to others even after she gained some of the weight she'd lost again and got surgery to remove excess skin. Sadly, she encountered other health problems too. In a post from Sep. 25, 2022, Lexi shared a video of herself walking and explained in the caption:

"After spending three weeks in the hospital at the beginning of this year I wasn't able to walk when I was released and felt defeated/devastated. The doctors weren't sure why but I could no longer lift my right leg or walk on my own despite tests," she wrote.

She revealed she "had to use a wheelchair/walker and have assistance with all (her) daily activities," and added:

"I've had to sit on the sidelines of my own life after I had finally made it to the center stage where i felt like i was living not just exisiting. Once again I felt trapped like I had been at 485lbs and refused to give up on myself."

Lexi said that despite imperfect posture, falling multiple times and being unable to walk miles like she used to, she hasn't let that hold her back from getting back up again, as she inspiringly wrote, "fall down seven times and stand up eight."

In another post, Lexi celebrated her 7th wedding anniversary to Danny, as she opened up further about the difficulties she faced in 2022:

"Life has tested us lately but just made us stronger together than ever before. You constantly believe in me, take care of me, and remind me what true love really is."

Lexi remains a true inspiration to people everywhere. She's shown that weight loss isn't linear and that even in the face of other health problems, a fighting spirit is important to ensure that you always get back up again.
