Smith began noticing strange symptoms shortly after having her first child. She experienced chronic fatigue, causing her to sleep more frequently; she felt gross after eating, and, most importantly, she found a strange lump in her breast. She passed it off as a cyst, believing that only women over 50 contract cancer. Unfortunately, she soon discovered that this is not the case.

Smith went in for a medical examination that revealed the truth - a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer. In a fit of terrified shock, she declared, "My life is over! I will never be a mother!" Luckily, the doctors had caught it early.

Smith began treatments immediately, which consisted of six different medications and sixteen courses. It was a grueling process, which culminated in the removal of her left breast and radiation therapy.

Fortunately, the hard work and treatment paid off - the cancer was defeated.

Two years passed. Smith wanted to try for another baby. Her doctor didn't think it would be possible - the radiation therapy could have damaged her ovaries, making it impossible to conceive or carry a child. Smith refused to accept this, and in two months she was pregnant. The pregnancy was difficult, and the delivery was brutal, but Smith and her new son defied the odds. Three years after her battle with cancer, Smith was a mother again.

Smith took to social media to share her story. She posted a photo of her breastfeeding her son with the words:

"Never be ashamed of a scar. It simply means you were stronger than whatever tried to hurt you."

She went on to express how grateful she is that she is able to breastfeed her son despite losing a breast to cancer. Despite being told she couldn't have a second child, she managed it anyway. Smith counts herself incredibly lucky and incredibly blessed.
