Woman Who Lost 127 Pounds Adopts An Overweight Cat And Gives Him A New Chance At Life

King Augustus the cat, at 35 pounds, weighed about what an average 5-year-old human would weigh. That is a hefty cat that would make Garfield look slender by comparison. King was taken to the SCPA of Wake County in North Carolina after his owner died, but the next step in his story would take part when he found someone just right to adopt him.

King lived most of his life with an owner who suffered from Alzheimer's disease, and the caretaker couldn't remember if the cat had been fed or not, so this led to the cat being offered food multiple times throughout the day. Needless to say, King Augustus was more than willing to partake at every opportunity and grew to a prodigious size.

Robin, the woman who was to adopt him, first got a glimpse of the huge cat on the shelter's Facebook page. At that moment, she realized that she and the cat were destined to be together. Before his adoption, his name was "Bazooka Joe," reports ABC11.

The reason for this inspiration was because of Robin's own battle with weight. She conquered her problem and felt that she could use her new-found knowledge to help others. When she saw King on the internet, she believed she could change the rotund cat's life.

Robin's life change began five years ago when she was diagnosed with diabetes. This gave her enough drive to change her lifestyle and transform her body in order to defeat the effects of the disease. She amazingly dropped 127 pounds after an exemplary effort. She is now on a mission to enable a similar transformation for her new cat, according to The Dodo.

The day that Robin arrived at the shelter to meet King, she was filled with enthusiasm. They rolled the cat's cage into a room where Robin could meet him for the first time. They opened the cage, and King walked out and sat down waiting for his new owner to approach. When she came close, the cat rolled over so that he could receive some physical affection. When Robin rubbed the cat, King seemed to immediately accept her as his new caretaker.

Robin needed to wheel the cat to her car because he was too heavy for her to carry. She had a room set aside for King when he arrived at his new home. The cat got comfortable, and the two became friends right away. The cat liked to lay his head on Rita's arm and purr. Robin said that the large cat's purring sound reminded her of a Ford F-150 Pickup truck. It was a low rumble that shook the walls.

Robin also has a dog named Rufus. The cat and the dog didn't seem very interested in becoming friends initially. The cat was actually larger than the dog, and he felt completely unthreatened. The two pets get along and don't harass each other.

Shelter staff say Robin's intention is to harness train King Augustus so he can get some cardio. If her transformation proved anything, it's likely that this king will be finding weight loss in his furry future.
