Woman Turns Eyesore Garage On Her Property Into A Sanctuary

A few years ago, Michelle de la Vega decided that her Seattle home was much too large, so the artist and designer turned her detached garage into an incredible tiny house.
Gone are the days when bigger meant better. Many Americans are leaving their large family homes behind and moving into tiny houses. A tiny house is any home that is less than 400 square feet.
In 2012, Michelle de la Vega realized that her Seattle home had more space than she needed, so she decided to join the Tiny House revolution. Instead of selling her home, she turned it into an income property and began a nine-month renovation on her detached garage.
What was once an eyesore became a sanctuary space that features a sleeping loft and a daybed for guests.

The tiny home has a fully functional kitchen. Michelle installed a stainless steel counter, floating shelves, and a large sink. A mini-refrigerator has enough space for a week's worth of groceries.
Michelle wanted to cut down on clutter, so she refurbished a few old storage lockers to store her shoes and clothing.
An addition was built to house the budding minimalist's bathroom. Vega chose a full-sized bathtub, toilet, and sink. She told the FYI network that she enjoys unwinding in her spa-like bathroom after a stressful day.
The home boasts beautiful bamboo wood floors, and large windows let in plenty of natural light making the 250 square foot home feel much larger than it is.
Since moving into the tiny house, Michelle de la Vega has chosen to live a low-cost lifestyle. She grows the majority of her food herself, and she makes all of her home decor from flea market finds.
Michelle has also adjusted well to living in such a small space. Whenever she buys something new, she donates something else to charity.
Vega believes that living in a tiny house has made her a better artist. She is no longer distracted by clutter. She's clearly enjoying her carefree lifestyle in the home she shares with her adorable cat.
The entire project cost Michelle $32,000, and it sounds as though it was money well spent.
