If you’re lucky enough, thrift shops can be a treasure trove of surprises; you just have to keep digging. Who would expect to find a limited edition Louis Vuitton or Hermes bag just hiding somewhere in a sea of gems? But if you’re even luckier, who knows what you might find? A bundle of cash? A pair of jewelry? More often than not, it comes when you least expect it.
This was the case for a woman named Lynora, who found $300 inside a Coach purse she had bought for just $6.99. That alone was already a win considering how much she had just paid for the purse. But it also came with something else — an inheritance note.
Lynora, who is popularly known to her followers as @marthainfused on TikTok, took to the video-sharing platform to share her experience buying which has since gone viral.
Apparently, she bought the purse at one of Salvation Army’s thrift stores. But she hadn't opened the purse before she started the video, so it generated a genuine reaction from her by the time she opened it.
She first opened the bag, which showed some stains around it but explained that she had already thought of cleaning it up when she made the decision to purchase it.
While cleaning it up, she found something unexpected. To her surprise, there was an envelope filled with cash hidden at the bottom of it. But its original owner intended to give it to someone important as it was covered with a message.
Apparently, the previous owner of the bag had three children. But she knew her stuff would be given away the moment she died, so she made sure to hide them in some of her favorite things.

Why? Maybe because she knew she would keep them if those were her important belongings. Your guesses are only as good as ours. Either way, she had something in mind.
But the bag holds an important significance to the owner, Martha, because it was her husband’s girlfriend who originally owned it.
In the letter, she shared how she got hold of the bag. She said she found the bag along with the girl’s shoes. “Well, actually, I came home early from a visit to my parent’s house in Connecticut. She must have left quickly because she forgot her bag and shoes,” it read.
“I carried this bag every day. I wonder if my husband ever knew this was his girlfriend’s. I carried it daily and am giving it away because my kids don’t want it,” the letter added.
People were quick to praise Martha, with some calling her an icon and others describing her as a doyenne.
“Martha was clearly a bada** woman. The fact that she included all the tea along with the cash,” a user named Gena wrote. Some even related her being badass to her astrological sign. “Martha was definitely a Scorpio with that long game,” a GreyGalaxie remarked. Another user wrote: “Martha is my kinda petty. Rest In Peace Martha.”
Of course, Coach didn’t miss the opportunity and hopped on the wagon by also calling Martha an icon.
As of writing, the letter has already garnered more than 2.6 million likes, 25,000 shares, and 96,000 shares. Amidst all the drama, Lynora had one piece of advice, especially for those who plan on donating what their parents left for them: “Check your mother’s purses before you donate them to goodwill!”
