Woman Thrifts $4,800 Designer Wedding Dress & Hopes To Give It To Someone Deserving

Every woman wants to have the perfect dress for their wedding. It can be the simplest of dresses, or it can be the most extravagant ones. Either way, every woman deserves to be their most beautiful on their wedding day since they only get married once in their life.

One woman, for one, has always dreamt of wearing a designer dress for her wedding – one that she has only seen in magazines. Years later, she came across a wedding dress made by a popular fashion designer at an antique shop – and it was sold at only $50. Even though she could no longer wear it, she still pushed through and bought the wedding dress – not for herself but for other women who might need it.

In March 2023, a 41-year-old influencer mom from Alabama named Ophelia Nichols took to TikTok to share a video of herself holding a wedding dress she found at a thrift store. Nichols said the dress was worth a whopping $4,819 in a thrift store but only bought it for $50.

When she found out the price, she admitted that she felt bad for buying it for only $50. So, she told the store employee how precious the item was. But the employee happily told her she could have it.

The dress was made by the luxury bridal brand Romona Keveža, whose works Nichols would only see in magazines back then. In April 2022, Brides magazine reported that wedding dresses from Romona Keveža start at $3,500.

“If you know Romona Keveža, she is known for her timeless classic gowns. So, you can wear one that’s 30 years old and it will be the most beautiful thing you’ll ever see while walking down the aisle,” she said.

“That’s why I love her. That’s why I loved her for years,” she added

Despite being married already, Nichols still decided to buy the dress because she wanted to give it away to her fans who have plans on getting married in the future.

"I cried when I put this dress in my truck because I would have given anything to have this years ago when I got married, and I know that it would mean something to one of you," she said. "Sure, I could get it cleaned and sell it on eBay for whatever, but no, I want somebody else to have this experience that I didn't get a chance to have."

She said she particularly wanted those who couldn’t afford to buy one or wished to have a designer dress for their wedding to have it.

"This is stunning. This would have been the dress I would have gotten married in. I'm speechless," she said after she tried on the dress.

Nichols, who has always been a mother figure to her fans, constantly shares pieces of advice with her followers, who she calls “tater tots,” so it wasn’t surprising that she decided to give it away to a lucky fan.

Meanwhile, her fans encouraged her to keep the dress and do a renewal of vows with her husband so she could wear it.

“Maybe you and Papa Tot could renew your vows and you could wear this dress,” one person said.

“Save it and renew your vows in it,” another fan said. “No no. I want someone else to have this that may not get a chance to have something so amazing,” she responded.
