Woman Says People Should Be Aware Of Overly Friendly Seatmates On Planes With Her Compelling Story

You never really know what to expect when you travel on an airplane. Aside from stressing about catching your flight on time and making sure you arrive at your destination in a timely manner, there are some other unexpected things that can pop up during your travels. Something to take into consideration is how the people around you may act, since not everyone is that great with flying and may express their anxiety in pretty unusual ways.

It is normal to run into a chatty neighbor once in a while on a flight, and this can result in anything from an enjoyable flight to even a friendship that can last a long time. However, it may be surprising to know that sometimes what seems like a harmless chat with someone can result in very dangerous situations on a flight especially. One Twitter user, @Unigwechidalu, whose name is Ada Chidimma, shared her harrowing experience on a plane, and her now-viral Twitter thread serves as a warning to others about what could potentially happen if things go wrong.

Chidimma's flight started quite normally: boarding, loading baggage, and sitting down next to her neighbor as the flight took off. However, just before landing, things began to go wrong, and before she knew it, Chidimma was in an unimaginable situation: her seatmate on her flight had drugs on her and was trying to pin the blame on her!

A situation like this can become extremely dangerous very quickly, but thanks to the advice that another passenger on the flight gave her, Chidimma was able to leave the situation without any legal damages to her.

Chidimma began her threat by writing, "If you travel by air a lot, beware of over friendly chatty seat neighbours- A Thread... The older lady comes and sits next to me inside the plane. She asked me to help her put her bag in the overhead luggage compartment. But a gentleman sitting across quickly came through."

She continued, "Immediately she sits down she strikes up a conversation. She was very pleasant and well spoken. So we chatted all through the flight to Dubai. Suddenly, when the pilot announced that we were now proceeding to begin our descent into DXB, my good friend 'developed' stomach pains."

When Chidimma called a stewardess over for some help, "this lady, she suddenly began to address me as 'my daughter.'" Certainly, this is a strange development. They were advised to remain calm and wait until they landed, during which time "My new friend was crying and sweating like crazy. And she refused to let go of my hand... everyone assumed we knew each other. So we landed at DXB and the same gentleman who helped put up her luggage in the overhead compartment removed her luggage."

She added, "But as he removed the luggage, he advised me to distance myself from this lady and make it clear to the cabin crew that we were NOT travelling together. He was a godsend!"

This was good advice, "So indeed, the cabin crew came and asked me if we were related, I categorically told them we had met on the plane. I didn't know her at all."

The thread then continued, "So we began to deplane and as I said goodbye she kept begging me to carry her handbag. I was so torn... but the gentleman looked me in the eye and emphatically shook his head. He passed me a note telling me to let the cabin crew handle her." This made Chidimma feel quite guilty, but she continued to deny her relationship to her seatmate.

This was the right thing to do, as what happened next shocked everyone: "As we waited for our luggage to come through, I hear this commotion. My 'new friend' was running, trying to escape the cabin crew, having gotten out of the wheelchair! She left the stewardess with her handbag and just ran towards the exit with the rest of her hand luggage! Luckily the airport police were faster than her. They got hold of her and brought her back in handcuffs."

This situation was awful enough, but "This lady starts calling out to me.. my daughter... my daughter!.. how could you do this to me..... that's when I caught on. She was carrying drugs and she was trying to implicate me! Luckily for me, the gentleman who had helped her with her luggage came forward and told the airport police that me and her had just met on the plane."

Even though she wasn't wrong, Chidimma was thoroughly questioned and all her luggage was dusted for fingerprints. After a long search, it became clear that she had nothing to do with the drug-dealer woman, but it served as a major lesson for her.

She was "let go with advice never ever to touch anyone's luggage either in flight or at the airport. So from that day, I don't care how much luggage you have, you will deal with it yourself."
