The people that rescue stray animals know how important the work they do is. Most times, these animals have nowhere else to turn. When rescue workers step in and care for these stray creatures, it's likely that they saved their lives.

These rescue workers dedicate their time and resources to putting neglected or abandoned animals first. They want to know that these animals are given another chance at life. The amazing rescue worker in this touching story is Carmen Weinberg. Weinberg heads up Animal Friends Project – the trap, neuter, vaccinate and return operation for local cats in South Florida. She also nurses injured and sick cats back to health and re-homes them until they are healthy again.

As she was re-homing another injured cat, she came across the cat at the center of this heartwarming story. Weinberg found Cotton, a homeless cat, in 2016. The cat was discovered eating food meant for an owner's pet cat. The owner put cotton in a carrier and Weinberg went to pick him up the next day.

It was clear that Cotton wasn't healthy. He was underweight and he couldn't even open his eyes. After taking him to the vet, Weinberg learned that Cotton was suffering from dehydration, mange, and anemia.

What's worse is that the mites on the cat were so bad that Cotton was unable to see. Alone, sick, and skinny, Cotton didn't stand a chance much longer living on the streets.

Though cotton was sick, Weinberg wasn't about to give up. She was determined to give Cotton his health back. Armed with ointments, antibiotics, and a very specific diet for Cotton, Weinberg quarantined the cat in her bathroom. Slowly, she was able to bring Cotton's health back!

Though it was a while before Cotton as able to enjoy his new home, he started adjusting more and more as his health improved. Finally, he was able to be free of the scratching and itching that he was so accustomed to. As Weinberg continued to care for the cat, the day finally came when Cotton could open his eyes! Everyone was shocked to find that the former stray cat had multi-colored eyes. With one blue and one hazel eye, Cotton is now healthy, happy, and able to see.

This amazing ending to this story is so incredible since Weinberg and Cotton's other carers all feared that the cat would never be able to see again. Seeing the cat in perfect health is the ending that every rescue worker hopes for. Once Cotton was healthy, Weinberg knew he had found his home – she adopted him as her own.
