A woman named Ms. Wagner was driving home with her friend Sarah Ragamuffin when they discovered an unusual sight. Everything was normal until they reached Seaview Road in Adelaide. Upon driving down this area, they noticed a female kangaroo that was dead on the side of the road due to what looked like an automobile accident. Although they planned on passing the kangaroo to proceed home, Ms. Wagner realized that there was a possibility that the kangaroo was still alive, and the two women decided to circle back and check on it.

Upon returning to the kangaroo’s body, they realized it was dead but something still seemed off. It was at this time that the two women realized that there was a baby Joey inside of the kangaroo that had survived. The Joey was struggling to get out of the mother’s pouch, and he had his legs dangling outside in an attempt to escape.

Ms. Wagner knew she had to save the baby. She grabbed a blanket that she had in the car and used it to get a grip on the baby Joey. She started by grabbing the feet, successfully pulling the kangaroo out and using the blanket to wrap it in.

Ms. Wagner states that the Joey was making crying sounds while she was attempting to get him out from the mother’s tight pouch. This process was difficult, as she had to be very gentle in order to retrieve the baby Joey without hurting him.

Thankfully, Ms. Wagner saved the life of this baby kangaroo and notified the proper authorities who were able to get him to a facility that specializes in taking care of kangaroos, located in Strathalbyn. The Joey is currently safe, healthy and happy, but without the quick thinking and care of this woman, he might not be.
