Secondhand stores and markets are wonderful places to find old, forgotten treasures or unexpected gems of items that you will cherish for a long time. They can also be a good way of saving some money when you are on a tight budget.

While some items may have some wear and tear, you can still find good, serviceable items in most cases. And if you are looking for some small, decorative items to brighten up your home while tight on money, they can be veritable treasure troves. Many people sell or give away items they no longer find pleasing to the eye or that were handed down from relatives or friends with a widely different taste, after all.

Back in 2018, a woman named Priscilla Bailey was shopping in a thrift store in Plymouth, Massachusetts. She was just browsing when she found a blue and purple glass ornament. She immediately took a liking to the bauble, liking the way it looked and sparkled in the light. She bought it and took it home as a decoration to liven up her house, only to realize at home that some unusual specks could be seen inside the tiny trinket when the light hit it in a certain way.

After some investigation, she realized that it wasn't just any regular tree ornament or decorative piece but could potentially be a container for the remains of someone's lost loved one. What she could see glinting in the light seemed to be dust or ashes of some kind, and she knew that some people decided to store the ashes of their loved ones in decorative urns so that they could stay a part of their daily lives.

Whenever you look at some of the things that you purchase from a discount store, you might notice a few scratches on the outside. These are the signs that the item has a past that you might never know about.

Priscilla Bailey knew some signs of use were to be expected when she went shopping at her local discount store in her hometown in Massachusetts to look for Christmas decorations. What she found was an ornament that she liked for only about $2. This ornament sparkled when it was held up to the light, and something about the way that it looked made Bailey know that she had to purchase this ornament. It just seemed special to her. She especially liked the small details she could see.

The blue heart went up next to her kitchen sink so that Bailey could see it while she was in the kitchen cleaning or preparing meals for her family. It glistened when it caught the sun at just the right angle.

Bailey soon noticed that the top of the blue heart looked like angels, and there were some intricate features adorning the bottom of the heart as well.

"Right up here on the top, right across the top, it looks like angels or Vikings. They look like little angels, and there's all this work down here. It's really beautiful," she told Boston 25 News.

When Bailey took a closer look under the right lighting, she noticed that it seemed to have something tucked inside. Moving the ornament around so that she could get a better look, she saw something moving.

What Bailey noticed was some kind of powdery substance moving around within the heart. The content was hard to see, even with good lighting. Speaking to Boston 25 News, she explained: "It's small. The two spots in it are small, the size of a golf ball."

After thinking about the way the heart looked and the beauty that was on the outside, the angel markings, as well as the substance inside, Bailey realized that she likely had bought the urn of someone's remains. Mayhaps the heart had been passed down in a family, and somebody had forgotten about the meaning behind the ornament. Or maybe somebody had chosen the trinket as the resting place of their pet's ashes. Whatever it was, Bailey knew she had to find the original owner of the heart. She posted the information on social media outlets and started working with her daughter to try to find the owner, explaining: "I think they'd want it back for sure. I would. I would want it back."

Bailey told CBS, "Right now it's hanging up there when I do my dishes I sometimes stare at it.”

Bailey felt terrible when she first realized what she was holding. She soon started thinking about the family that was probably missing the ornament and the love that the family had for the person or pet who was laid to rest this way. Unfortunately, so far, no update on whether the heart was reunited with its original family can be found. We dearly hope Bailey's quest was successful and somebody was reunited with the remains of their loved one. It is heartwarming to think somebody might be remembered long after they have passed in such a beautiful way.
