Woman Repulses People By Scarfing Down Raw Salmon On Public Transport

As far as social media sites go, TikTok is somewhat notorious for bringing the more bizarre behaviors to the attention of a wider audience. Whether it's outlandish outfits, oddly specific family traditions, or food combinations that people assumed only they partook in, the site allows for millions to witness and, more often than not, judge whether or not it's all acceptable behavior.

Sometimes TikTokers reveal that they simply, somewhat inoffensively, add milk to the bowl before they pour in cereal. Other times, they add utterly unacceptable household items to their dishwasher, prompting the rise of the phrase "you can't eat at everybody's house."

TikTok provides a unique view into the no longer private lives of people around the world. This level of exposure becomes tempting for some, who post habits that are so far outside the realm of what could possibly be deemed normal that everything suddenly seems fake.

When the response is overwhelming that a video must be fake, the question becomes of authenticity. Viewers ask to what extent is the offending TikToker merely chasing clout. Are they being for real right now? Is this just for views, or is this serious?

One TikToker crossed this unspoken line in January 2023 when she posted a video of her eating raw salmon straight out of the package, prompting the nickname "Salmon Ella." Seemingly assured that she wasn't the only one to partake in this forbidden snack, she wrote, "Anyone else or am I wrongen (sic)?" She then proceeded to take several sizable mouthfuls of the raw fish chunk, risking intestinal worms.

While it is customary and entirely safe to eat raw fish in certain settings, generally, the salmon bought at Sainsbury's is not considered sushi grade and, thus, not safe for raw consumption. Despite this, the TikToker wrote, "just missing the soya sauce." She said the fish was "banging" despite probably being cold and definitely uncooked.

Her craving for raw fish isn't unheard of. Eating fish in this way is important in many cultures. According to WebMD, "In Japan, sushi and sashimi are traditional dishes that feature a variety of raw fish, including salmon.

In Hawaii, eating raw salmon is common in the form of poké." The TikToker in question, however, chose not to prepare any of these dishes and instead merely munched on the unseasoned filet as is.

Her choice could be potentially hazardous to her health given the high potential for, among other things, worms. Per WebMD, "Some kinds of raw fish, including salmon, contain parasites that can make you sick. These parasites are normally destroyed by heat when cooking but can also be eliminated by freezing the fish if you intend to eat salmon raw."

Despite one commenter pleading for the TikToker to "buy worm tablets TODAY," the now-viral salmon lover said she would eat "chicken breast raw … next week." Whether she has intestinal worms, good poisoning, or just a bizarrely strong stomach, it seems apparent that she's eating for attention.

While the disgust in her video seems to stem from the danger of the dish, one commenter pointed out an even greater offense. They wrote, "on public transit too that's crazy." Imagine being on that bus. Hopefully, she's kidding about the chicken, but given her other video, it seems not. Let's hope she has great medical insurance.
