Southern California was victim to devastating wildfires in December 2017. The horrifying fires were spreading quickly, and both animals, as well as their owners, were forced to evacuate their homes as quickly as possible.

Sadly, a horse from Sylmar, California, was unable to escape the flames that were quickly encapsulating his house.

Kenny, the 23-year-old horse, attempted to make a run for it when he sensed the fire. Unfortunately, Kenny had tripped and fallen, finding himself stuck between the walls of his stable. Stuck on his back, Kenny was unable to move as the fires gathered closer and closer to him.

Thankfully, a local journalist reporting on the incident found the trapped horse.

Gina Silva, a porter from KTTV Fox News in the area, was on the streets reporting on the fires. She saw Kenny stuck in his stable and knew she had to do something. Her team wasn’t able to remove the horse themselves, and she knew that all of the firefighters in the area were already occupied trying to put out the fires.

Gina turned to social media and used her Twitter account to try to obtain help for the trapped horse.

She tweeted out what was going on, with the address of the incident. Thankfully, a local veterinarian reached out to Gina to help the horse. Many other people in the area tweeted their support as well.

When the rescuers arrived at the scene, they gathered around the horse’s stable. The veterinarian issued a tranquilizer to keep Kenny calm during the rescue. The team managed to break down the wall in order to get Kenny out. Quickly working due to the spreading fires, they were able to free Kenny from his entrapment!

The same veterinarian that freed Kenny was able to transport him to his clinic, where he was treated for minor injuries. Thankfully, Kenny is now stable after a fast recovery and is back at home with his owners. During his treatment, the vet was able to find his owner, who was beyond thankful that her beloved horse was rescued. She was unable to take Kenny with her when she evacuated from the wildfires and is so thankful that he recovered.

When the owner of the horse returned home, she sent the reporter who saved her horse, Gina Silva, flowers in an effort to show her appreciation. Thanks to Gina’s quick thinking, the power of social media and the gracious nature of strangers wanting to help, Kenny has thankfully survived this incident and will live out the rest of his days at home with his owner.
