Woman Refuses To Give Priority To Coworkers With Children For Holiday Vacations

It is a common practice in workplaces that people should place their vacation leaves or holiday leaves ahead of time. If possible, even weeks or months before to anticipate and avoid any potential complications that may arise.

Usually, holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas are the most booked by many, as it is the perfect time to spend quality time with your kids, family, and other loved ones.

For TikToker @_cal_cifer or Callie, she thought that since she placed her holiday leaves ahead of time and was already confirmed, it would be an actual walk in the park by the time the holiday season comes around. However, things went south when her officemate tried to work her way out to get her booked leaves.

“A few years ago when I was still working front desk at the hotel I got into this really big argument with one of my coworkers,” she said on the now-viral video. “She was 10 year older with a man and she had two kids. And I had asked off for Thanksgiving like literally almost a year in advance.”

Callie booked her leave on Thanksgiving and Black Friday too. In hindsight, her officemate, who just remembered on the week of Thanksgiving that it would be a holiday, forgot to book her leave on the said days.

Apparently, Callie’s officemate asked for their supervisor for those days off but was immediately turned down because of how last-minute the notification was.

“My manager then approached me and asked if I would be willing to give my days off for her, and I said no,” she reveals

Afterward, the manager went on to slam Callie for not giving her officemate the day off, pointing out that said officemate was a parent and deserved the holiday off.

Unfazed by the reasoning of her manager, Callie held her ground and still refused to give her days off, driving the manager angrier.

Thinking the matter had been settled already, Callie was shocked when her officemate approached her the next day, demanding that she need to lend her the holiday off to spend time with her kids.

“And I say while I understand that, I asked these days off months in advance, and I’m going to take them. I’m sorry,” she continued

Still relentless, said officemate went on to say this: “Well, you don’t have an idea how hard it is. You don’t have kids, so Thanksgiving is just another day for you. Why can’t you just let me have it? Why do you wanna take memories away from my kids?”

Callie then stressed that her officemate’s “lack of preparation” shouldn’t be her problem in the first place.

Responses on her first video were through the roofs, with people agreeing with Callie on her fair take.

“Just because someone has children doesn’t make spending time with their family more important than when I want to spend time with mine,” someone posted

However, one user seemed to have strayed away and sided with the officemate, noting that parents should be given priority on school holidays. This comment got Callie’s attention, and she decided to respond with another follow-up video

“No. You do not get priority because you chose to have kids. If the week of your spring break for your kids school is so important for you because you’re planning a family trip, you need to show initiative and take your time off,” she said. “If you somebody else you work with, happens to ask for those days first, I’m sorry.”
