Everyone knows that Princess Diana was one of the most glamorous women in the world. What they may not know is that she was also hard-working, humble, and unfailingly loyal.

In 1980, the then Lady Diana Spencer was working two part-time jobs in London. Both involved childcare, as Diana always knew she had a way with little ones. Three days each week, Diana was the nanny for Patrick, the small son of a busy American businesswoman called Mary Robertson. On two days, she worked in a nursery school.

Mary Robertson was very happy to have such a polite, industrious young woman working for her. But she didn't suspect Diana was a member of the aristocracy until she found a bank deposit slip, according to the Inside Edition.

Diana had mistakenly dropped it while at her home. Teenage Diana was shy, even after marrying into the Royal Family it took her a long time to warm up to the public eye and the glare of the press.

Diana Spencer was working for the Robertson family when she became engaged to Prince Charles. She was honest with her employer about the situation, and gave the family fair warning that soon, the press would descend on their home. Roberston told Inside Edition that when Diana saw reporters milling at the end of the street she said, "they're here for me."

Diana gave a proper amount of notice before leaving her job as a caregiver for little Patrick. The family had always appreciated Diana, but they never expected what came next.

Although Diana was now one of the most famous women in the world, she never forgot who she was or where she came from. Diana was a very loyal woman. She stayed in touch with Mary Robertson faithfully for about 16 years, until her tragic early death in 1997.

Young Lady Diana Spencer spent just a year working with the Robertson family. However, she looked back on that time as some of the greatest days of her life.

Ultimately, Diana loved the simplicity of family life with children. At heart, this elegant lady who charmed the world at state functions enjoyed quiet, domestic pleasures. Although Diana always did her duty to her royal station and her sons, she also missed her simple, uncomplicated life as a nanny.

Though it was an impossibly sad task, Mary Robertson honored their friendship by attending Princess Diana's funeral.
