Woman On Her Deathbed Holds 19-Year-Old Service Dog Close, And The Dog Immediately Comforts Her

We all know just how wonderful dogs can be. They make us smile and laugh when we are feeling down, and they cuddle up to us when we are lonely. They run to us as soon as we walk in the door from a long day at work to show us how much they missed us. What would life be like if we didn't have these wonderful animals around?

Dogs are especially important when they are used as service animals. Canines can be trained for all types of medical problems and conditions. They can help the blind get around in public or keep an eye out for potential seizures. They are great for men, women, and children who suffer from PTSD. Bomb-sniffing dogs will even save lives when they sniff out an explosive.

Dogs are always there for us no matter what. They stand by us through thick and thin. This can also be seen in a touching video of a woman on her deathbed, as she holds her beautiful service dog Baxter close by her side.

Baxter was a rescued dog turned therapy dog for San Diego Hospice. According to the San Diego Union Tribune, Baxter was one of nine dogs in San Diego Hospice’s Pawsitive Pals Pet Therapy Program and helped make life seem a little brighter and a little more cheerful for countless patients. He seemingly made everyone smile and laugh just by being around them.

Sadly, Baxter ended up not being able to walk well on his own as he got up in age. But that didn't stop him from going from room to room in the hospital! He simply had to use a little wagon to get around. It was a joy to see this wonderful dog doing everything that he could to make others happy.

The following video was filmed towards the end of his life. It shows us what an amazing dog Baxter was and just what he meant to the people who interacted with him. Get ready for a few tears when you watch the video for yourself:
