Sometimes we need to hit rock bottom so that things can only get better. This is what happened to Phyllis Olsen, from Canada, who went through some difficult times in her life which ended up with a stay in prison.

Phyllis didn't have the best start in life, according to Reshareworthy. She grew up in an abusive home, which resulted in her fleeing as soon as she could. She married, but later divorced and lost her kids. She ended up living on the streets and battled with alcohol abuse. This culimated in a stint in prison.

It was during her stay in prison that she participated in an outing to a ranch, where she met a horse called Shag-Ra. They instantly bonded and Phyllis knew that she would be reunited with this horse when she got out. Her savings from what she earned in prison came to $300 dollars, reports Reshareworthy, which was exactly the right amount needed to purchase the horse from the ranch.

Phyllis and Shag-Ra were both sad to begin with. According to Reshareworthy, Phyllis said that she “walked in the barn and there was this skinny, little horse with the biggest, saddest brown eyes I’ve ever seen in my life.” They went back to her farm in Canada, and the more time they spent together the closer they became. The closer they became, the happier they both were knowing they had found a true friendship that was healing their past.

Phyllis began to see just how special Shag-Ra was. He would come to open her kitchen window every day as soon as she arrived in the kitchen. He showered her with affection, and was always there when she needed him. He kept her company, and was not just a pet, but a friend.

This story demonstrates the incredible bond between humans and animals. Has an animal ever saved you? Is your pet your best friend?
