Woman Made Money From Her Nails She Hasn’t Cut In Years

Most people have an occupation, extracurricular activity, nervous habit, grooming habit, or some other factor that keeps fingernails from getting too long. So, it may be difficult to imagine the result of not cutting or breaking all ten fingernails for a couple of weeks, much less years, right? Blogger Elena Shilenkova has made herself an Instagram sensation and Guinness Book of World Records holder for her long nails. Just how long are they?

It apparently all started from a bet four years ago. Yes, she’s grown her nails for four years without sniping or breaking a single one. The friend said they’d give her $3,000 if she could grow her nails out to 5cm.

She had to give up some things like swimming and tennis. Still, she managed to grow her nails, or rather “babies,” out and win the bet within a year.

Instead of cutting them off after her win, Elena just let them keep growing longer, and longer, and longer. She eventually made it into the Russian book of records according to Virgin.

You’d think Elena must just sit at home and barely move to keep from breaking her fingernails, but her Instagram account tells a very different story of a relatively normal and active life.

Elena has pointed out a few drawbacks, however, such as the way she has to type with very soft, slow, and controlled hand movements. In this Texting demonstration, Elena shows how she’s still relatively fast at texting by utilizing her knuckles verses fingertips.

In fact, Elena’s account is full of videos on how she goes about the regular and not so regular activities in her life. She opens presents, scratches snow, stabs a jelly eyeball, opens and closes locks, puts on stockings, buttons her jeans, and opens a soda can on various different videos to show the world life goes on for her and her long fingernails.

Elena appreciates the attention her nails have brought her, saying that they’re like her “personal calling card.” While people see a thousand faces they barely notice and forget, she says her nails have made her a memorable standout in the crowd.

She does admit that she gains a diverse response when people see her fingernails in public. Some are amazed and ask for a selfie. Some appreciate her patience and diligence. Meanwhile, others are frightened and want to know when she plans to cut them.

In previous YouTube and Instagram posts, Elena says she’s actually had nightmares about breaking her nails as she sleeps.

Recently, though, Elena has announced she will finally be snipping her fingernails off in either June or July of this year. Five nails have already been reserved for purchase.

What do you say? Could you grow your nails this long? Would you buy one of Elena’s fingernails if she cuts them? Tell us your thoughts and questions in the comments, and don’t forget to pass this story along to your friends and family.
