Woman Loses About 100lbs In A Year, Gets Accused Of “Upstaging” Sister At Her Wedding
Nov 10, 2021 by apost team
Losing weight is hard. In order to do it the healthy way, it usually takes a good amount of time and a lot of dedication and hard work. Losing several pounds is not something that can just be done overnight; it requires a healthy, nutritious diet and a manageable exercise plan to shed the pounds and keep them off.
One 28-year-old woman had always struggled with her weight. In comparison to her sister, she was always seen as the fat one. However, she recently started making some changes in her life that led her to successfully lose almost 100 pounds. She doesn't live close to her family and isn't very active on social media, so none of them knew about her weight loss.
Her younger sister was getting married and had been planning the wedding for about a year. Finally, the woman was going to be reunited with her family for the first time since losing so much weight. She decided to show up a couple of weeks earlier than originally planned to help out with setting everything up for the wedding and to catch up with her relatives.
Once she got there, her sister immediately began freaking out. No one could believe how different the woman looked after losing a substantial amount of weight. Rather than congratulate her for working so hard to reach this milestone, her family accused her of trying to upstage her sister. The woman was floored by this, so she went to Reddit in October 2021 to ask users for their take on the matter.

Her Shocking Weight Loss
Starting off her Reddit post in the r/AmITheA****** forum, the original poster (OP) talked about how she used to be overweight, but over the last year she has made some changes that resulted in her losing close to 100 pounds.
"I don't live close to any of my family and don't post on social media so my family wasn't really aware of my weight loss," OP said. "I did mention that I was making healthier choices but that's it." Any time she had tried to lose weight in the past it never worked, which made her hesitant to share her current weight loss plan.
"My 26-year-old sister got engaged last year and I'm super happy for her," OP said. The wedding got pushed back a bit due to some outside circumstances. When it finally got closer to the date of her sister's wedding, OP decided to visit her family two weeks beforehand to help out with setting everything up for the wedding. She also wanted to catch up with her family members since she hadn't seen them in quite some time.
OP continued, "Well, when I came to see my family my sister freaked out upon seeing me." It turned out that her sister had gained a bit of weight, but nothing super noticeable. However, it was the first time in their lives that OP was smaller than her sister. OP had always been seen as the "fat sister," so this change in positions was a lot for her younger sister to take in.

No One Was On Her Side
"She basically accused me of trying to upstage her and my parents are fully taking her side," OP explained. "I'm really not sure if I'm in the wrong here as so many of my family are taking her side of things." She ended her post by asking Reddit users, "AITA for losing weight before my sister's wedding?"
Even though many of her family members weren't on OP's side, the majority of Reddit users were. Several of them pointed out just how toxic her family seemed to be and how rude it was for them to accuse her of something like this. One user sarcastically commented, "Wow OP, you spent (a) whole year of your life losing weight and making sacrifices just to upstage your sister?! How dedicated and pretty of you!" The user also called OP's family delusional.
Many users agreed with this sentiment. One user explained, "Instead of being happy that her sister is making healthy changes, she made it about herself. Totally self-centered!" A third user said, "It's the new hit diet! Spite."
Other users chimed in to encourage OP to start distancing herself from her family. One user said, "Girl don't go to the wedding if this is how they're gonna act, like cut toxic family out." Another user added, "I'd say OP isn't done making healthy choices. Seems like she will lose a lot of dead weight when she cuts that family off."
It was clear that Redditors were on this woman's side, and encouraged her to continue making healthy changes in all aspects of her life.
