Woman Leaves Sign On Front Sidewalk Marking It ‘Silly Walking Area’ And Neighbors Deliver

In April, Liz Coto from Michigan decided to mark the front of her yard with signs informing passersby that they were at "The Ministry of Silly Walks" in hopes that they would play along by walking in a silly way, and they did.

With the coronavirus crisis still in full swing across the world, people have been getting creative in hopes of entertaining themselves and maybe even putting a smile on somebody else's face.

For those who aren't familiar with Monty Python, they were a British surreal comedy troupe who had a television series and films that were immensely popular in the late 60s through to the 80s, and have even continued performing together again in recent years. Their comedy skits were known for being outrageous and silly, which made them all the better.

One famous sketch involved the so-called Ministry of Silly Walks, in which people at the offices walked in silly ways. It might not make much sense to explain it, but as with most comedy, you have to see it to understand it and get the joke.

Well, Liz Coto, who resides just outside of Detroit, Michigan, is obviously a fan of their comedy, since she decided to turn the short patch of sidewalk in front of her house into a designated area belonging to the "Ministry of Silly Walks." Erecting two signs at either end of the footpath, they stated: "You have now entered the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Silly Walks. Commence silly walking immediately."

Speaking with Inside Edition, Liz explained her reasoning for setting it up: "Since everyone can go out walking still right now, why don't we make it enjoyable?" It's that kind of positive and creative thinking that has kept us sane throughout quarantine up until this point, and no doubt will continue to keep us in a good mood as long as we have to stay inside.

Capturing the walks on her doorbell camera, Liz has even set up an Instagram page displaying some of the best walks.

From families participating altogether, to individuals having a bit of a laugh, the footage is sure to put a smile on your face — not only from the silly walks but at the sheer thought of everybody coming together and keeping the community spirit alive.

What do you think of Liz keeping Monty Python's comedy alive in times like these? Would you do a silly walk if you came across her lawn? Let us know in the comments and be sure to pass this on to any family and friends, especially those who are Monty Python fans!
