Woman Is "Too Old" For Long Hair — Cuts It Off During Makeover And Feels Twenty Years Younger

Hailing from north-west Oklahoma, Rhonda is a 54-year-old woman who's kept her hair longer to appease her children, although she's not a fan. But after a makeover with Christopher Hopkins AKA The Makeover Guy, she has it cut short and feels as though she also took twenty years off.

In a video posted to the The Makeover Guy’s YouTube channel in July of this year, we are introduced to Rhonda from “very far north-west Oklahoma,” opening the video saying that she is 54 but feels as though she is much younger than that. “I am 54. I think I feel about 34,” she says on camera.

Rhonda has hair to her shoulders but says she's "too old to have long hair," and if it is long she only ever wears it in a ponytail. “I like to have, like, a do, and if it is long, I just wear it in a ponytail, and I am too old for a ponytail,” she says.

A school teacher who works with four-year-olds and a recent grandmother, Rhonda needs something that is not in her face all the time but matches her personality. “I have recently become a grandmother and I am a school teacher and I work with four-year-olds, so it cannot be anything down in my face all the time. I have to have it to where its style … I can maneuver easily with,” Rhonda describes.

Her children, however, like her hair longer, which made her hesitant to cut it off. “I like to wear my hair short and my children give me a hard time about it,” she says. “They like it to be longer and so I have been letting it grow, but I feel like I am too old to have long hair. I think it is just too thin and fine.”

“I like for it to be short, kind of puffy. So I tell them whatever Christopher says, it is what it is going to be,” Rhonda asserts. 

Well, The Makeover Guy and his team gave Rhonda a full transformation, boosting the blonde in her hair, giving her dramatic eye makeup, and creating "a stacked, inverted, chin-length bob," while complimenting her as "one of the rare few who can wear her hair around her heart-shaped face."

The result is a completely new woman—Rhonda looks fantastic and is clearly thrilled with her new shorter do. She says she sees "a better me" while her bubbly personality shows through more than ever. “I see a better me,” she says with a gleaming smile. She is even making jokes and has a new lease on life. “This will withstand the wind, and the four-year-olds,” she jests.

Christopher explains he: "didn't think she was 'too old' for long hair, but since she didn't feel good with her hair long and it did not suit her sassy personal style, we decided this would be a good compromise."

“I love it. I am going to FaceTime my children because they think I need to have long hair. They think short hair is for old women.”

Rhonda does a spin on the video call to give her daughter and her grandbaby a 360-degree view of her new look. “Do you like that? So it is short but it’s not grandma-short, is it?” she says on the call.

After a video call with her daughter, Rhonda's look gets "children approved." Describing the wonderful day she's had with The Makeover Guy's team, including sharing a shot of tequila with Christopher to celebrate National Tequila Day—a first for Rhonda—she proudly says with a smile: "I'm not 54 anymore… I'm 34."

Viewers took to the comments section to share their thoughts on Rhonda’s transformation and many of them talked about how they do not think older women are not suited for ponytails and long hair. “Why do so many women think they should cut their hair short when they get older,” wrote one viewer, Rosemary Reird. “I think elderly women with really long hair look beautiful.”

“Her students are gonna think they got a new teacher, she looks beautiful!,” another viewer commented.

All the positive feedback on Rhonda’s makeover video makes it seem to be a crowd favorite among all of the transformations The Makeover Guy has ever done, as is evident in the top comment of the video, which reads: “OMG - This is one of the BEST makeovers Christopher has ever done! She looks FABULOUS and her new look showcases her pretty face and her great personality!”

On his LinkedIn profile, Christopher describes himself as an “entrepreneur, entertainer, cyber-star, author, and appearance aficionado.” According to his Wikipedia page, Christopher’s salon was originally located in the Hubbard Broadcasting building in St. Paul, Minnesota. Four years later in 1994, he relocated it to his hometown in Minneapolis and renamed his salon from ‘Christopher Hopkins Salon’ to ‘Christopher Hopkins Image Center’, CHIC, for short

Christopher has helped boost the confidence of countless clients over the years with his expertise. His client sample is no stranger to notables. His author biography on audible.com notes that he was worked with famous people like Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, Lauren Holly, Robert Wagner, and Stephanie Powers.

It would seem like the beauty industry is truly Christopher’s calling. Christopher’s mother, Joann Hopkins, who is sometimes seen in his videos serving as a fashion adviser to the clients, says that her son showed interest in playing dress-up and was aware of his appearance from a very young age. “At 18 months he talks quite a bit, most everything he tries to say is quite clear. He likes to play with shoes. Loves animals. A big tease. Likes to play with girls, dress-up, and dolls. Loves to play records, the music of all kinds. Likes his hair cut and combed just so,” Joann says on Christopher’s about page on his website.
