Getting old isn’t fun for anybody; however, a woman in her 70’s named Mary Maxwell helped to make it funny for at least a few minutes. It all started when the people organizing the “Caregiver of the Year” ceremony invited Maxwell to come up and say a prayer. To everyone’s surprise, the results were hilarious!

Maxwell came onto the stage and gave the event host a quick hug before making her way to the microphone. She gave a quick explanation that she had recently turned to the services of a caregiver herself before she started out with a prayer.

The beginning of the prayer seemed like a regular blessing, giving thanks for the food and asking that it be blessed along with the hands of those who prepared it. But then, Maxwell decided to swing things in a different direction. She started to act like she was going to leave the stage, only to turn around and continue some more in her conversation with God.

She offered God a quick apology for continuing, but told Him that she had a few more things she wanted to discuss with the crowd while she had the microphone.

Turning the prayer to a speech to the other seniors, she explained that she is 72-years-old and weighs 145-pounds, answers to questions that she declared that she was frequently asked.

She asked God to show the caregivers why the seniors aren’t always very “likeable” and certainly not loveable! Maxwell declared that being old isn’t something that people get to practice, so it can be difficult to always be great at it. As she explained, this is her first time being old!

The crowd was beginning to chuckle, but they were rolling in the floor as she started to reveal things that made her realize she was old such as gray hairs on her chest and large skin-growths. When everyone was practically rolling with laughter, Maxwell recalled times that she had experienced senior moments. An example? The day she went home to switch out her mismatched earrings, only to change them to another pair of mismatched earrings!

Although the speech was hilarious, Maxwell ended it on a calmer note by showing her respect to those who care for the elderly and the appreciation she feels for them. Then, to close things off, she quit with a joking prayer that God would please help her find her car in the parking lot at the end of the event!

It’s so refreshing to see an elderly person able to crack a joke about growing older!
