Tia Vargas was hiking along to the 11,106-foot summit of Table Rock in Idaho when the 40-year-old mother-of-three came across an unexpected sight.

She found a lost and injured dog with no owner in sight.

She knew that she could not leave the hurt dog on the mountain, as it likely wouldn't last for very long without help. Tia's father was waiting for her about one mile down the mountain, so she picked up the 55 pound dog and situated it on her shoulders to make carrying it down easier. The dog, whose collar said its name was Boomer, seemed relieved to finally have help. Her father joked with her, asking if she thought the hike was too easy without also carrying a dog.

Despite the jokes, the trek was not easy. The weather conditions were treacherous, and the group had to hike through slippery snow and then pouring rain. In the heavy rain, they lost the trail twice. At one point, Tia was so tired and her muscles so sore that she felt she wouldn't physically be able to keep walking any longer.

But she knew she had to keep going for Boomer's sake. After six miles of difficult terrain, the group finally made it back to civilization and immediately took the hurt dog to the vet.

Boomer had a dislocated foot as well as torn ligaments. He would have been in trouble if not for meeting such a kind and loving person on the trail who was willing to help regardless of obstacles.

Eventually, she was contacted by Boomer's owner. He explained how the poor dog got lost and injured on the mountain, saying that the dog fell off a 100-foot high hill and became lost.

The owners were planning on selling the dog but instead let Tia keep her newfound friend. Tia and her family were elated when they heard they could keep a strong and loyal dog.

Wow - this is an inspiring story! What do you think about this story, would you also carry the dog home? We would love to hear your thoughts! Do you know any animal lovers out there? We're sure they will love this act of kindness too!
