It is the wedding dress that has truly stood the test of time. In 1957, Carol Bates walked into The Wedding Bell bridal boutique looking for dress ideas. The young woman from Tacoma, Washington had originally planned on her sister making her a wedding dress.

However, one look at the beautiful white lace dress on display at the store and Carol knew that she had found the dress of her dreams.

Carol went on to marry her high school love, Bob Bates. The 78-year-old woman has since returned to The Wedding Bell multiple times throughout her life, proving herself to be one of the shop's most loyal customers.

About 30 years ago, Carol went to the shop to have the dress altered so that her own daughter to could wear it at her wedding. She then went back again 10 years ago so that the dress could be fitted for her 50th anniversary.

And it was just recently when she paid the boutique another visit, requesting that the dress be altered once again for her 60th wedding anniversary. Although the shop changed owners about ten years ago, it still retains the small-town charm that originally attracted Carol.

The shop's new owner, Kim Miller, is delighted that Carol continues to return. Of course, Carol said that she is planning to return again for her 70th anniversary. Carol and Bob met when Carol was only 14 years ago. It did not take long for Bob to ask Carol out to a dance.

Although Carol's parents said that she was too young to go to the dance alone with Bob, they agreed to accompany her to the dance. The rest is history. The happy couple has built a life together raising four children and continuing to love each other through thick and thin.

They credit the success of their relationship to communication and respect.
