She noticed the squirrels climbing the pole which held the bird feeders and thought of a plan. It was actually pretty simple. She just greased the poles making them so slippery that the squirrels couldn't get any grip to climb them. How amazing is that?

Her daughter, Christine, posted her mother's video on Twitter and had all kinds of responses. Most everyone was impressed with this ingenious, simple approach to solving an age-old problem for bird lovers everywhere.

Some of the responses were:

  • "Can you tell your Mum she is a star! That has made my day! I have terrible trouble with squirrels on my feeder, now I can imagine they are pretending to be firemen and oil up the pole hahahaha!"
  • Someone else said. "One way to protect bird’s food..."
  • One humorous comment was "Why does remind of Mario when he brings down the flag at the end of each level."
  • "I am legit laughing so hard at this I think I pulled a muscle," said another reader after seeing the video.

Squirrels have been a growing problem in England as well as other parts of Europe, even though they are native to North America. Now, they have a fool-proof way to keep the squirrels out of the bird seed.
