It’s no secret that aging affects a woman’s pregnancy. While some women find it easy to get pregnant, it’s not always the case for everyone. Some women even go through in vitro fertilization (IVF) but still fail to get pregnant. These types of situations can make women feel hopeless — especially for those who have tried over and over and exhausted all efforts to get pregnant but to no avail. Of course, no one can blame women who never stop trying. After all, a lot of women say that becoming a mother is one of the best feelings in the world.

While there’s no best age to get pregnant, it’s considered easier to carry a child at a younger age. Many women around the world who go through geriatric pregnancy or those who get pregnant above 35 years old can experience complications and problems, including miscarriages.

Then again, a lot of women decide to get pregnant at a later point in life because they have other priorities. This was the case for a woman named Jessica Delfino who became a first-time mom at the age of 40.

“By the time we felt prepared to start trying to procreate, the bulk of my 30s were in my rearview mirror. After I started trying at age 38, a series of issues lengthened my timeline — it took me eight years to have two children,” she said.

While she tried to get pregnant again after giving birth to her first child, it wasn’t as successful the second time around. But who would have thought that six years later, her dream of becoming a mom to a second child would come true? Well, she didn’t expect it either. But that’s what happened to her — and she’s just the happiest woman for finally making her dreams come true.

Delfino admitted she went through postpartum depression that lasted almost a year following the birth of her first child. But in 2019, she and her husband decided to get pregnant again. At that time, she was already nearing the age of 43. But she remained optimistic.

While she wanted to do IVF, Delfino said it wasn't covered by her insurance. So, her OB-GYN told her she should do a hormone test to see if she could get pregnant again. Lo and behold, she found out via phone call that it wasn’t impossible at all.

“So I began peeing on FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) sticks to track my ovulation and banged on a schedule in hopes of fertilizing one lucky egg,” Delfino said.

Years passed by but she still couldn’t get pregnant. There was simply no luck.

“I got very serious about the limited things I could control to help it happen. I completely quit drinking and gave my diet a major overhaul. I stuck to a regular exercise routine. I experimented with some herbs, like stinging nettle, and ate a teaspoon of honey every morning and night for its anti-inflammatory properties,” she said.

Then, after three years of trying, it finally happened.

“While having a C-section tops my list of least fun things I’ve ever done, I was excited to meet my baby — the girl I’d been dreaming about, for so, so long. I felt absolute elation when I heard my second baby’s first cries. After three long years, my baby girl had safely arrived,” she said.

Leaving an inspiring message for women who dream of becoming a mother, she said: “The future is uncertain. But that is the case for mothers of any age.”
