Woman Expecting Triplets Photographs Massive Baby Bump

It's fascinating to see how pregnancy changes the body; if you think one baby can completely transform a woman's figure, you have to check out what three do.

Pregnancy will always be a mystery to witness and experience regardless of how well we comprehend the science behind it. It's still so fascinating and insane to grasp the fact that a tiny human being is growing inside of another. For nine months, you watch your belly expand, and then, there's just a little person in your arms, ready to experience the world.

Chronicling the changes of pregnancy online is a fun practice many moms-to-be partake in. Maria, 36, runs the Instagram account Triplets of Copenhagen. Maria and her husband naturally conceived triplets, and she began posting about her experience being pregnant with multiples back in May.

Since her first post, Maria has amassed over 195,000 followers. Her Instagram account offers an intimate glimpse into the lives of Maria, her husband, and their two-year-old son. At 13-weeks gestation, Maria found out her family was going to grow by three!

She was excited but, naturally, shocked.

As time went on, she used Instagram to post shots from the earlier trimesters of her pregnancy and share the moments building up to the birth of her little ones. From buying a new family car big enough for six, health scares that resulted in short hospital stays and gender reveals, Maria hasn't held back in documenting her journey. Surely plenty of other mothers have found solace in her ups and downs.

During her 33rd week of pregnancy, just two weeks shy of her scheduled C-section, Maria uploaded a video of her massive baby bump. Her 20-kilogram (40 pounds) stomach was enormous.

On her small frame, it's a wonder she could even stand upright on her own with such a belly!

It's certainly a marvel to behold, and we're happy to announce that Maria healthily delivered her three babies safely on September 12, 2018.

Triplet births in the U.K. are rare with one in every 5000 pregnancies being a triplet pregnancy. The birth rate of triplets used to be higher between 1970 and 1998 thanks to fertility procedures like IVF. However, a regulation in 1998 limited the number of live embryos permitted to be transplanted, which resulted in less multiples pregnancies.

A Cesarean section is the most common delivery method for triplets; a natural birth would be risky for both mother and babies. The added stress of labor on the fetuses could be life-threatening, and there usually isn't enough room for each baby to move into a birthing position to allow for a vaginal delivery.

More than 40 percent of twin births are vaginal, but women like Maria with three or more babies on the way will most likely require a C-section. We're happy to hear that Maria's scheduled delivery went well and that the triplets are all healthy. Best wishes to the new family!
