Woman Entered Alligator Pit With Son To Retrieve Wallet In Insane Video

An eyewitness recorded the heart-wrenching video this past Saturday at the Safari North Wildlife Park in Brainerd, Minnesota.
In a video making rounds on the internet, an unidentified woman and her young son are seen inside an alligator pit, trying to retrieve a wallet that's floating on the water. Ashlynn Curtis, the eyewitness, recorded the footage and uploaded it to Facebook on July 19th, and that is how it started doing rounds.
The Floating Wallet
When a woman's wallet fell into an alligators' enclosure, her courageous son thought it was wise to jump into the pit and get it back for his mom. The video starts with the young boy running around the pit, screaming, "I can't get out. I don't know how."
Shortly after, the mom wanders, trying to distract the deadly reptiles with a stick and her phone on her ear. This was an attempt to get the animals away from the pink wallet near the pool's edge. Using the same stick, she stops her son from getting any closer to the gators. Instead, the boy runs around to the other side of the pond. The other children can be heard telling him, "Don't do that, you could get bitten by an alligator," when he gets too close to the pond. From the other side, he can see when the alligators get close to his mom and he warns her.

They Finally Get it
Despite the little boy's bravado, he does not get it. His mom throws several pebbles from the side of the pond into the water, and she succeeds in borrowing a minute to get the wallet before the small alligators' patience grew weary. They are so lucky they did not get bitten. All along, on-looking kids are heard screaming at them. Didn't they understand how much danger in which they were putting themselves?
They Get Out without a Scratch
As soon as she grabs the wallet, she scolds the boy as they walk hurriedly towards the exit. She lifts him out of the pit, and before she could climb out of the pond, she says to him, "It's your fault for coming in here even after I told you not to," as can be heard in the video Ashlynn Curtis posted on Facebook.
It is a miracle they survived such a dangerous stunt. The only funny part in the Facebook video is when witnessing kids yell "S*** happens!" after everything unfolded. On making her way out of the pit, she realizes that maybe she had made a mistake, and she quickly apologizes before walking away.
The Zoo is Not Happy
According to TMZ, the zoo's management is not pleased with what happened. They are planning on pressing charges against the mother for child endangerment if they can positively identify her. It is quite surprising also that the management and other zoo officials came to learn of the incident only after it went viral on social media. Safari North Park also has signs and fences all over to protect both the visitors and the animals, but they were somehow bypassed. There were also no employees around at the time of the incident.
It is hard to tell how the wallet got into the water and got so far from the edge. Although the wallet is essential to the two, there were better ways to retrieve it. All in all, at least they are safe; we hope they never have to try this again. That little boy's courage is the kind that everyone needs, but never forget to calculate the risks.
