Gardens are some of the most beautiful places to enjoy. The blooming of their lovely flowers signal that spring has come and they contain some of the most gorgeous, vivid colors that you may ever see, all combined together to form a stunning multi-color tapestry. It’s true that a garden that is well-cared for is a magical, enchanting place for anyone who may pass by to take in and appreciate.

Gardens also attract all types of little critters. Birds, butterflies, hummingbirds, rabbits, and bugs all enjoy taking a trip to the garden. Many of these animals help to pollenate and can even help spread flowers to other areas, creating an even larger garden.

While the word “bugs” may have some negative connotations, sometimes they can be exceptionally beautiful creatures to behold. Margaret Neville can attest to the beauty of certain bugs after finding a particularly rare one in her garden. Margaret was tending to her garden and admiring her lavender bushes as she usually does when her South African garden is in full bloom. That particular day she noticed something new that was quite incredible to behold and she told The Dodo about it.

Crawling on one of the branches of her lavender bush was a gorgeous creature. While it was technically classified as a bug, it was a stunning specimen that looked like something an artist would create. It had legs that were light purple and they actually looked just like lavender buds that bloomed on the bushes Margaret was previously admiring.

The most stunning feature on the bug was its green and white wings that had a gorgeous black swirl in the center with a blue dot that made it look like an eye. Margaret said that when she saw it, she thought that it was an exquisite work of living art. The bug was a flower mantis. It was one of 2,300 different species of the praying mantis that are found throughout the southern and eastern parts of Africa.

They are lovely creatures that are able to camouflage themselves with their surroundings. With its light purple legs that resembled flowering buds, it’s no wonder this particular flower mantis chose to call Margaret’s lavender bushes home. Margaret took several pictures and eventually named her Miss Frilly Pants.

How incredible would it be to find such an exotic creature living right in your own garden? That’s one perk of living in such an interesting climate as Africa has. Send this incredible story along to anyone you know who likes to garden or would appreciate a gorgeous “bug” like Miss Frilly Pants.
