Woman Declared 'Dead' Found Alive And Breathing In Morgue Fridge

Could there be life after death? For this South African woman, death really wasn't the end after all.

Johannesburg paramedics were in for quite a surprise recently. A woman, who has yet to be named, was declared legally dead and stored in the morgue fridge. Yet when they took her out, she was discovered to be breathing.

What Went Wrong?

The woman was involved in a car accident, with two other casualties reported. The paramedics checked her for signs of life, including her pulse and breath. The family is now talking to the emergency response team about their practices.

In January of 2018, a similar incident occurred in the Asturias region of Spain. An inmate at one of their local prisons was declared dead by three different doctors. However, right before his autopsy, the man "came back to life."

Two other instances happened in South Africa: the bodies had been put in the morgue, only to be found breathing not long after. One of them even screamed to be let out!

The woman might have been briefly stored in the morgue refrigerator, but she's now recovering in a hospital close to Johannesburg. By all accounts, the morgue technicians might need recovering, too, in order to get over the shock!
