Woman Criticized For Choosing Green Wedding Guest Dress That Was So Pale It Looked White

There’s an unwritten rule about people planning to attend weddings as guests: never wear a white dress. That’s because no one wants to see someone else stealing the spotlight from the bride on her special day. Of course, that still depends on the color of the bride’s dress. If she plans on wearing a pink dress, then the guest could probably wear a white dress as an exception. Then again, it’s still better to ask the bride to avoid confusion. Or better yet, just find another color that won’t overshadow the bride.

The wedding day is perhaps one of the most important moments in a woman’s life, so we might as well let her have her moment. One woman, though, was heavily criticized for her choice of dress as a wedding guest. Although she just wanted to proudly show off the dress she was wearing to the wedding and had no intentions of taking the moment away from the bride, people thought her outfit as a guest wasn’t appropriate.

In March 2023, a woman named Lauren Candy shared a video of her on TikTok trying out a green dress was planning on wearing for a wedding she was attending as a guest.

Candy is known for sharing videos of her wearing hauls of various outfits she

"Quite possibly the most beautiful wedding guest dress ever,” the onscreen caption read.

On the website of the online retail store ASOS, the $117 dress was described as a “bridesmaid cami embellished midi dress with embroidery in sage green.”

Despite Candy saying that the color of the dress is really green and has colorful embroidered flowers all over it, several people came at her. They particularly criticized her for supposedly choosing a pale-colored dress that looked almost similar to white.

But Candy couldn’t help but respond to some of the comments about the dress, particularly those insisting that it was white.

“Too close to white. If the light you have on in your room is enough to make it this light it will probably show up white in the pictures / outside,” one person said. “Filter on the video too. It’s a drab day it has to be done. I promise gals I’m staring at it right now and it’s green,” Candy responded.

“Do you think it is too white to wear to a wedding?” another person asked. Candy then responded by saying: “So trying it on today. I would defo wear this. It is pastel for sure but defo not white. But also guilty for using my light and a pastel filter.”

Then again, a lot of women also came to her defense and backed her that the color of the dress was actually green, contrary to what the others were claiming about it.

“Why is everybody saying it’s close to white? It’s literally green!” one person remarked. “People saying it’s white. It’s very sage green to me,” another person said.

But Candy thought the statements should be addressed, particularly those saying it was “totally not appropriate.”

"Y’all making me doubt my eyesight now, so let’s prove it’s green,” the onscreen caption read.

"Personally if someone wore it to my wedding I'd be saying how beautiful they are and can I borrow it, but of course, everyone has their own opinions," she said in the video.

To give everyone a clearer picture, she laid the dress next to a white vest. This emphasized the contrast of colors between the two.

“The dress is clearly green," she said.
